today was fun, today was a throwback to my "younger" days, today i rode a vespa, an old vespa, it was great. i dug through my "mod box" and got my parka, half helmet, goggles and whatever else i could find and met up with my friend josh who has a 2003 Stella 150 and a 1964 Vespa 125. He told me to take my pick. i picked the vintage bike. i hadn't rode an old vespa in a long time and not since i started riding motorcycles. 6hp, "vague" at best shifting, little to no brakes, suspension??? what suspension? haha, it was GREAT. we switched bikes after a while (i'm too heavy for the old one to go very fast) and the new bike was very nice, something i'd own if i were in the city. peppy two stroke, aftermarket pipe, nice sound, disc brakes, decent suspension. i had a great time riding something a little different!

"My jacket's gonna be cut slim and checked
Maybe a touch of seersucker with an open neck
I ride a G S scooter with my hair cut neat
I wear my wartime coat in the wind and sleet."
Very cool Bubba.

Nice. All you need is the thin tie.

Ok If you tell anyone here on the forum that I asked you this question, I'll call you a liar, but which one is the 64 Vespa ? My guess is the red one? Both look very cool. Glad you could share that bit of fun.

I'm guessing the green one is the new one (it has a disc up front).

yep, the two tone one is the new one, it's a 2003 Stella (made by Genuine Scooters) based on a 77-84 Vespa P200E, you still need to add oil to the gas, its still a manual transmission, it's still a two stroke, but its new. new Vespas are all 4 stroke, automatic, dry sump (like a F650) machines. Its sorta like the Ural of the scooter world.

Did it have that completely bizarre shift mechanism, where you twist the left grip to select the gears?

1 back, 3 forward, my 63 Vespa 90 was a 3 speed, having that extra gear was nice, i was able to break 40 mph!

Too cool, Bubba. Now add about 12 more mirrors, a too-small suit, and you're ready for a Quadraphenia re-shoot!
