Hey K-bike riders,

I thought I would pass on a (new to me) and most helpful used parts guy in NC. Fred's Cycle in Morganton (828-433-1067).

He came as a referral from BMW of Charlotte last week when I called looking for miscellaneous parts. I find it to be most helpful to pass along tips like this. Always good to know.

I'm working on K machine.

I was listening to the bike a couple of weeks back and heard the ominous ticking of the exhaust. After loosening the exhaust assembly for removal, the header pipe for #4 fell off - clang! Cute! It had been cracked for some time, since before I bought it, I think. Luckily, I found one at Fred's Cycles in Morganton.

BMW services them with a reman unit now and charges 'new' prices of $1184. for the privilege. Ouch! I suspect the source of pipes is all the ones that failed early on were brought back to be repaired. No, no, no, no.

What a great bike though! GS' are fine, but this one really cooks.
