I need to rebuild my Front master cylinder on my 97 R1100RT. I have the kit all 3 pcs. $70. Is there a breakdonw of the MC anywhere on line. I have not rebuilt a mC since I was kid 40years ago

Hi, Brainfish,
The m/c on your R1100 and my K1100 are the same. I just rebuilt mine a month or so ago, and it it is still holding and not leaking. I did it still on the handlebar. My Clymer manual tells how to do it. The bore was very rough and the seals were almost rock hard. I bought a small brake cylinder hone and fine stones for it (it came with medium) and honed the cylinder until, sticking my little finger into the bore, it felt smooth. Then, after flushing with alcohol and more alcohol and then lubricating it with brake fluid, I inserted the new piston and seals. After reassembling everything, I pushed the brake pads back into the caliper, pusgung brake fluid back up the system. When I saw there was fluid in the m/c reservoir, I was fairly sure there was no air in the system. I filled the reservoir and bled the system and got no air bubbles. After a month or so, I have no leaks and the lever is still hard. I hope it lasts for many more years, because a new m/c is well over $200 now. MAKE SURE before you do anything, you spread a few thick towels, blankets, or something on the paintwork so any spilled brake fluid has no chance of damaging the paint!
