I took delivery today of my PIAA 510's. I had planned on mounting them on my GS' Hepco-Becker tank protector. The H-B protector includes mounting holes for lights. The problem is, it looks like the holes are 6mm or so (didn't measure) and the PIAA mounting bolts are more like 8 or 9 mm (again, didn't measure.)
Is there any reason why I couldn't just substitute a narrower bolt to attach the lights? Have any of you installed PIAAs on H-B bars? If so, how?

I have not done this exact modification, but I have swapped other bolts. Just make sure that you get rated bolts if you are replacing rated bolts. I highly doubt that the mounting bolts are rated, but you never know.

Thanks for your feedback! Assuming they are rated, would a hardware store know what I was talking about if I asked for rated bolts, or should I look elsewhere?

Both Home depot and Lowes have rated bolts in metric sizes.

Check out this web site for some info regarding substituting metric bolts and their strength.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Cwtester... I now know more than I ever did about bolts! I also found a wealth of information at boltdepot.com (http://www.boltdepot.com).
I wound up going over to a friend's garage and drilling out the holes, which took all of two minutes. I feel better having the 10mm fully threaded hex bolts in there as opposed to 6mm. (see... I sound like I know what I'm talking about!)
