Can anybody recommend any interesting roads on the east side of Indiana. I'll be coming in from the south around the Cincy area and leaving near South Bend. I just wanted to know if there were some good diversions along the way.

Well SR 15 is not too bad. In terms of site seeing, there is some nicer stuff on the southern half of Indiana. If you are looking for site seeing, there is Amish Acres (tourist trap) and the Studebaker Museum in South Bend, as well as the College Football Hall of Fame.

Labor day weekend is the Auction in Auburn. World's largest auction of collector cars. Usually up to 4000 autos and a huge flea market with old gas signs etc.. Muscle cars, sports and race cars, true vintage cars. I have even seen the bat cycle for sale.

I use to live in norther indiana and I can assure you the roads are far from exciting. We use to hit 231 and ride south to get to some curves. I think 231 runs the length of the state on the eastern side.

Thanks for the replies, I saw some good roads in the southern half of the state at motorcyclerides.com. I have ridden some of them. My ultimate goal is to travel through IN and go up the west coast of MI. However, my searches did not reveal any cool diversions from Richmond, IN up through South Bend. I guess its not really not that far.

A couple of possibilities.. From Cinci take US-52 through Metomora, a neat old restored canal town just a couple blocks off the highway. Just west of Metamora turn right on IN-121 to Connersville. IN-121 is twisty-fun. From Connersville take IN-1 north to US-35 to Muncie, then IN-3 North to IN-15 and take it to near South Bend. An alternate would be to pick up IN-13 at Wabash. Both 13 and 15 end up at the same place, Goshen.
The other possibility is US-52 to IN-46 west to Batesville, then IN-229 North through Oldenburg back to 52 just west of Metamora. Batesville and Oldenburg are pretty neat old German towns.
What you want to avoid is US-31.

231 runs down the western side and on into KY. Once you get S of I70, SW and S IN has many nice roads. This is due to the White and Wabash River Valley, the karst topology and the Hoosier National Forest south of Bloomington...
I know cause this is where I live! I run a short part of 231 everyday back and forth to work...
No help on the other side of the state though, sorry!

If heading from Louisville to Cincinnati, there are some good roads in IN between the two, including 62 from Madison to Dillsboro.
