Is the Mobil the "super" or European blend? If it is it's pure syn. Euro standards are stricter than US.
how's the old adage:
some oil is better than no oil
good oil is better than bad oil

All modern oils are supposed to be compatible with each other.

how's the old adage:
some oil is better than no oil
good oil is better than bad oil
It's "Clean oil is better than dirty oil and dirty oil is better than no oil"
and hey, it's not that old. I only came up with it a couple of years ago. :D
I've read you can mix oils but don't mix a synthetic with a dino and don't mix oils with different weights. I have no idea why, or even if it's true regarding modern oils, but I thought I would pass it along.

Hey Bubba, it was good to meet you at Damn Yankees. Anyway, I'm no expert but Paul Glase, who publishes tech articles for BMW ON told us at a workshop at the national rally that you can safely mix all synthetic and dino oils safely. fwiw.

good too meet you man!
i was at that seminar as well and i seem to recall that line concerning gear oil in the final drive, where the oil isn't undergoing as much "stress" as it is in the engine.
well, i did it anyway. 400 ml of 15W 50 in 3.3L of 20W 50, i'm not worrying, bike felt fine the 40 miles to work...............

I have heard the same thing, but I think it is old tech info. Shoot, everybody makes syn BLENDED oil now, so what is the big deal.
Bubba - I have mixed with no problems.......

If the synth+dino thing were ever true, it's no longer true. As for not mixing different weights, that's total nonsense (within reason of coarse).

Flash deuce and a quarter has done more research than anyone else I know and can probably speak more authoritatively on this subject. he has some strong opinions. I don't always agree but some of them are based on a lot of careful research. He knows oil.

I cannot imagine that this does anything bad. You can never get all the oil out when changing it, so if a few ml of oil X mixed in with oil Y would be bad you could never switch to another oil again. :dunno
