I remeber seeing an article in the ON on welding
fittings to a standard GS tank for a crossover
tube like the adventure tank. I can't seem to find
it in my back issues and wondered if anyone here
might remeber it or even wrote it.
I'd like to find out what fittings they used and where
they got them as I plan on doing this mod to my tank.
TIA for any help getting me in the right direction.

I have absolutely no knowledge of the exact procedure you have requested, but I do know enough about welding and gas tanks to advise EXTREME CAUTION. Do not even consider doing this yourself unless you are a highly skilled welder with experience on tanks that have held flammable liquids. Gasoline can impregnate the steel that holds it and then when heated by welding can release enough fumes to cause an explosion. Seek the help of a professional welder. They will use some type of liquid medium to surpress fumes and subsequent explosions; usually discarded freon or some other relatively inert liquid to fill the tank before welding on it. Even then, there is some risk of flashing but the inert liquids will prevent explosions.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!

Rather than dealing with the challenge welding fittings in the tank, you might try the siphon option. I installed a kit which JonJen over on advrider.com sells, $28.00 or so. Real simple and it works like a charm!!! Send John a PM.
He does have a site but I don't know the address. Honest fellow, don't worry about sending him the money.

I remember reading somewhere that the tank interior is coated. If this is true, welding will burn away the coating in the area of the weld raising the possibility of rust. Just a thought.

I had planned on having a pro do the welding.
And the interior lining is peeling in a couple spots.
My plan is to have the welding done and then
get the inside recoated. Hopefully someone might
want to buy this "Adventure Lite" tank since the
standard version 5.5 gal tank does not seem to be
in high demand. If not, i'll maybe have it painted
yellow and use it on my 03 GS Sport.
