I just moved to Palm Springs, CA. I just put a new battery in my '93 G100 P/D and have fired it up for the first time in months. It's not running correctly. Dies when I close off the choke. I need service help. Can anyone assist? Does anyone know of a good mechanic in my area? Thanks!

Sounds like the idle jets may be clogged (that happens pretty easily if the bike is stored with gas in the carbs) but a basic cleaning and tune-up is a good move no matter what. You can send the carbs off to a repair shop but it sounds like you should hook up with some local Airheads (www.airheads.org) for the tune-up and carb setup stuff.

The best answer to EVERY technical question ever posted here is ... join your local BMW club.

You can look them up elsewhere on this Web site.

Sorry that I am not from your area, so I don't know a good mechanic in your area. I follow the suggestions that are given. I would clean the carbs, change all the fluids and ride the bike. Ride the bike as much as you can. The airhead's don't like sit. Find a local group of Airheads... are you an airhead member? The California region is very active. Hope you find some buddies. With that also comes a lot of mechanical experience... Enjoy..

adjust the carbs...and adjust the valves. The engine dying is a symptom of tight exhaust valves.

Carb cleaner from your local parts house will do wonders for carbs that have been sitting. Pull the bowls and clean'em up. Don't pull any jets unless you are knowledgeable of such. Yoyu can get plenty of cleaner in there, by pulling bowls and intake tubes. Valves too, as PMD suggests. Randy
