discovered a missing emblem on my tank today. heart broken. all five on the bike were faded a nice way as to compliment the smoke red color. now I might have to replace them all with new.

Sooo any chance anybody has an old faded one in good shape they would be willing to part with?

First thing I did after buying my bikes was replacing the yellowed emblems. It increased the value by 18%.
Usually when you remove the old ones they get damaged.
Good luck.

I don't have any, but if you want to make new ones look old, try coating them with some clear polyurethane such as Minwax. I used Minwax clear finish on a musical instrument I built, on which I had applied white pinstriping tape as a 'false binding' (guitar-people will know what I'm talking about). The Minwax dried kind of an amber colour over the white tape, giving a it cool 'fake-antique' look. I've seen a few old Beemers with yellowed roundels so this might be just the trick you need.

I just bought 3 the other day. The one on the back of the bike behind the seeat actually turned black and the paint curled up. I gotta replace all 3 now and am unsure what to use to get them off.

Use a hair dryer to loosen the glue and use a tool like needlenose pliers or a flat screwdriver to gently pull up on the emblem.

I don't know, but WD-40 works good for all other adhesives.

I wonder if taking a new emblem and placing under a UV light for a few days would discolor it? Although it may take more like 15-years :doh

Just trying to help... :nyah

How about a "BentBike" wrecking yard, course you'll have to get one off without destroying it.

Dental floss. Yes, dental floss is it.

Take a length of dental floss - about a foot long will do. Slip it behind one edge of the emblem and use a back-and-forth sawing motion to remove the emblem without bending or damaging it. Once off - Goof Off, or naptha based lighter fluid will soften the adhesive left on the emblem and the bike.

Most emblems have a double-stick foam backing which holds like stink, but is easy to cut through with dental floss - available at your dentist (mine gives it away) or any reputable pharmacy or discount emporium. I keep a roll in the shop as an essential shop supply.

WD-40 does not work on all glues, and it can cause other problems especially if it comes in contact with rubber. A heat gun is typically the safest and least damaging for removing glue and stickers.

Now in terms of the patina, maybe a yellow highligher?

I know a guy who got good results using a tape measure in a similar manner to the dental floss trick.

Go to BMW car dealer and get 36 13 6 758 569

It's about $4.

Too cheap to be asking forum folks to give you their spares.

Less expensive and better looking than the motorcycle item.

You said that you have 5, now old eblems.... how about taking only the other side of the tank off and replacing it with new "Airhead" sticker. It is the same size. That way you still have the old ones that you love so much and only replaced 2 of them. Of course you need to be an Airhead member to get the decals. It will be unique and different and you have the best of both worlds.... You are an Airhead member? Right?
My food for thought... :eat :drink

i've already ordered new ones, but i really like the aged effect of the old ones that all matched.... but anyway, easily removed one from the bags and put it on the tank. will put two new one on the bags and have the ones on the bike all original and faded.

so I've got 'em off and figure I can try wd40 and heat to revove the black rubber backing from both the badges and the tank, what do I use to replace the rubber and stick it all back on? What's a good adhesive that won't be too susceptible to heat, rain, and gas station splash?
i figure masking tape, a level, and a pencil will help me mount them so the prop logo is plumb.
suddenly I just realized that on the c stand the bike wont be level. Block under the rear tire then tape, level etc.?

I have an old yellowed emblem. Yours free if you are still looking for one. Contact me at jbcollieratshaw.ca. You have to substitute the symbol for "at".
