I was at the Motorcycle Museum the other day and another gentleman and I could not figure out what these tubes were for underneath this old MotoGuzzi. Anyone know what these are for? (hope the photo posts)

I will guess that they're shock absorbers. There aren't any others anywhere else.

Ok, that makes sense since we did not see any but not sure if they were on the bikes during that era. I do remember seeing some springs going that direction. If they were shocks then they must have been hiting something on the rear end. I will look closer at the photographs.

MY WAG is that they are the springs, hooked to the lower swing arm, and the chrome jobbies connecting the SA to the rear subframe are the "adjustable" shocks.
Could very well be the other way round, though.

Those "elbows" in the photo Dlearl posted are the friction dampers. Not exactly shocks, but dampers all the same. Like he sez, the things in the tubes are the springs.
