Here's the rub. My wife is 5'4" and is having difficulties getting off her 75/6 with any confidence outside of a perfectly flat area. As she swings her leg over the bike wiggles and.....well, I'm sure at least some of you have enjoyed the resultant weight lifting exercise. (She hates it that I can just jump off and pop it up on the center stand, ignoring the side stand altogether.)

Isn't there a replacement stand that "locks" down without a spring retract?
If so, how does on acquire it?

Help will be appreciated!

Also, any line on a good used right side Bing for the 750?

Bob's BMW sells something called a "Brown" Sidestand that will do what you want. Bob's catalogue can be downloaded here:

I understand that the /7 side stand can be made to stay down by rotating the tang that holds the return spring on the frame. Not sure if the mechanism is the same on the /6.

Hi, Bullfrog,
The /6 stand can be made to stay down by rotating the tang. However, it is a PITA to deploy and is not easy to deploy while sitting on the bike. The Brown Sidestand, on the other hand, does NOT spring back AND is easily deployed while sitting on the bike. I had Brown Sidestands on my '76 R90/6, '81 R100RT, '84 R100RS and '95 R100RT. The K-bike stands can be deployed from the sitting position.

I appologize for the late response thanking you for the information. I'm going for the Brown stand but they are out of stock at BOB's. The tang idea would be great for me but I don't believe it would work very well for meine frau.

Forget the Brown's stand, call Bob Van Farowe @ 616-896-8469 & order one of his stands. Its basically an improved version of the Brown's Stand for less money. You can see it in the pic I posted of my red R80/100 a few pages back in the Airhead pics thread.

Hi, Ray,
I bought the '95 R100RT used, with just over 1500 (fifteen hundred) miles on it in September, 1996. It already had the Brown sidestand on it then. I call it a Brown sidestand. It may not have been a Brown. I used Brown as a generic term for an aftermarket sidestand. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I could only find your picture with the centerstand down. Will look into other sidestand, would like to see one on bike and down

I too have tired the "move the tang" thing and it does work, but it still folds, not having a postive detent, but a whole bunches better then the stock posistion

my brother has the brown stand, and while it works good, I think it lack a few things. (Maybe his is an old one). It does not have a "hook" to help easily deploy, and it does not have a foot, so it sinks into hot asphault

I ordered, and resold the fixer bracket that is shown in BMW "ON" but did not install it, as I then ordered a different aftermarket sidestand, used e-bay, that was junk. should have kept the fixer bracket

the person that bought my fixer bracket, said he loves it.

by the way, my spelling stinks, but does your wife really ride bile, sounds pretty yuck :dunno

It is available from Motobins and Motorworks.
The Brown sidestand works well for me.
