On my 2000 RT, the green dash "N" light does not always come on when I put it in neutral - the digital display goes to "0" but I have to wiggle the shift lever to get the light to come on. Any idea on what to check/fix for this?

Thanks

the neutral position sensor on the back of the transmission housing can get dirty. not an easy thing to get to without removing a bunch of stuff (at least on my S). i damaged mine taking the transmission out and now i have no neutral light and have to start the bike with the clutch in.

The switches are prone to that sort of issue. You need to remove the swingarm to replace it, so unless you really bugged by it, live with it until the next spline lube or bearing check.

My RS has started doing the same thing recently. Its a bit of a nuisance, but not enough to make me tear it down. Next winter I'll get to when I'm bored.

I've got the same problem with my 2000rt. It's laborious and expensive to replace the switch in the transmission. Just pull the clutch in to start. If it still doesn't start, you'll have to replace the clutch switch. (my clutch switch failed about the same time my transmission switch failed). I found replacing the clutch switch to be a PITA, but not impossible.
