I know allot of people love the on road Sympatex...
But what about these boots...?

As they say...

Canyon Sympatex $250
Another innovative, market nitch boot from Sidi is the Canyon Sympatex. Designed specifically for the quickly expanding adventure touring market the Canyon bridges the gap between street and dirt oriented boots in a supportive and feature laden design. Utilizing top grain leather outer construction in two contrasting leather tanning finishes the Canyon’s outer shell is treated to be both water and oil repellent and features a full coverage inner liner of 100% waterproof and breathable Sympatex. Entry and fit are monitored via a combination of a Velcro flap system above the ankle and a micro adjustable strap system below the ankle for the ultimate in comfort. The shin area is protected by a combination of internal plastic plating and high-density padding. Subtle but effective reflective materials are built into the heel and ankle area of the Canyon boot. A full lug sole is featured so traction is not a problem off the bike. Nylon innersole with removable arch support detail out the Canyon Sympatex.

Well, my last pair of "water proof" boots (S*o*l*u*t*i*o*n) gave out at about 4 months / ~5000 miles of on/ some off road use. Granted they are 119 bucks new & really are just a on road boot...

In perticular -the soles began to delaminate from the leather allowing water to flow freely to the internals (my socks!). They claim to have a micro barrier (King-Tex?). Well it kept out the rain for about ohhh, 5 mins once it started to come down.
In one rainfall coming into work I had to ring the socks out in the sink and hope that the boots and socks dried out somewhat before the end of the day.

Fotunatly the local Gas-Gas dealer (who sells Sidi) and whom I bought the boots in question from, gave me the credit off any pair of Sidi boots I wanted in place of the "other" boots.

So I figured I'd try the Sidi County. Claim to fame is that they are an On / off road boot.
At first glance after they came...backorded for a month!...
1. Protection is not like a full blown Mx boot. But it does have "some" shin gaurd sewn into the leather.
2. Really up scale look. With the right clothes I could go out with these things on! (I'm not looking forward to messing them up in the woods their so nice)...
3. The ratchet buckle is plastic. Even though its pretty thick, I could see one well placed rock cracking it. Good thing its replaceable! One screw holds them on. Easy to operate, to disengage- press (down/ in toward the boot) on the silver section.
4. Tons of velcro. I can't see this area wearing out any time soon.
5. Good lug pattern on sole. Traction.
6. Extra layer of leather over the top of the foot.
7. I usually take a size 11 US sneaker/ shoe. The dealer ordered 10 and 11. Good thing he did. Seems they run a bit big. The size 10 fit perfect. And when I used the ratchet it really did sinch my heel into the back of the boot. No lifting what so ever. Over all the fit was snug but extreamly comfortable, to the point of a great fitting, already broken in favorite work boot. Walking is no problem after loosening things up a bit.
8. The overall thickness in the toe section is greater than my last pair and I'm just getting used to this after ~200 miles (about 2 days worth of commuting for me). At first I thought for sure I'd need relocation pegs to get my toe under the shifter. But I am getting used to it...

I'll let you know how the off road portion goes as soon as I can bring myself to doing that to these boots...

Great review, very useful sizing info. I really like the style and was thinking of trying them out. I like the idea of sinching them down to accomodate for difference size feet/ankles.

The past few days here in Upstate NY the mornings have been in the low 50s F.
So far the boots have been warm.

This afternoon I test the waterproof aspect of the boot...I've gotta' run over to MAXs durning lunch to get oil and a filter. Should be a 30 min ride in the rain there, 30 mins back. Yes it started raining....At least it seems like its only on/off not steady...

On a side note, Is it just my neck of the woods or does it seem like fall is coming in REALLY quick this year?
