Thanks to Brock and his colleagues for doing such a fine job with the BMW Demo rides. I was lucky to ride a K1200GT that was just a KITA. The staff were friendly, patient and informative. So what if I had to get up a little early. The MAC PAC guys had free coffee and the line camaraderie was great.
BMW came up big on this one!

Can we make the unregistered users go away now? How easy it is for them to add their flip remarks under the cloak of anonymity. I prefer flip remarks with my signature under them. :type

I agree they did a god job. I test rode a K1200S, rather than wait for the GT later in the day. Now there's a bike (K12S) with power to spare.

Do you mean VT? Northeast? Did BMW "close" them down or did their franchisers decide to go oob? My understanding is that Westchester BMW went out of business because their "parent" dealership decided to focus on their car line. Right now in CT we have Cliff's "Revolution" with BMW, Aprillia and Ducati. Business is booming. We also have Canton Cycles in Winsted which I have heard is being taken over by Gengras HD in E. Hartford. Canton sells BMW, Victory and Triumph. Running a sole BMW dealership would be difficult in the northeast mainly due to the relatively few bikes compared with HD, Honda etc. Max has obviously done a great job by providing pick up and delivery as does Cliff's and Canton. Service has always been the key element in a dealer for me. I don't buy bikes often but I like to work on them and be able to get parts or more complicated services done at a dealer with good techs.
I don't think that the BMW mothership is "closing" dealerships. The demand may just not be there. Perhaps what is needed are smaller shops for routine maintenance/repair feeding the larger dealerships for sales and extensive repair work. My dealer gets parts quickly with just a little notice (2-3days).
My post was about the demo rides which I experienced as well run and fun. I wish that I could go out right now and buy a new GT but it's not possible. The ride reminded me of the continued refinement of the bikes that I like best, sport tourers. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water.

While I'm glad u enjoyed the K12GT, I really thought the new F800 S/ST should have been there. No offense intended BUT the age demograhic was a little OLD at the rally. I agree that dealers are closing for a variety of reasons and BMW market share is not large but with a new product being launched geared to replace the F650 lineup (a $7-9k bike already) I think the MOA national rally might be a good place to highlight the bike. BMW could think about selling a few bikes to the under 45+ crowd that doesn't cost $16k.

The web team is already working on a solution for the "drive by" postings. Stay tuned for changes. We are also getting tired of all the spam we are getting up here.

Some of us parents are the responsible type. If you get rid of any kids, take their oblivious parents with them.

I was fortunate to get two excellent demo rides on Thursday morning. R1200RT and R1200GS were both very impressive, power and handling. Tough decision about second choice, the GS pulled close to the RT. But still a distant second to my '98 C.

Breeze- Good to work with you and the others at the Forum Frenzy. :drink

Actually, Brock was leading my ride so I got to focus on the bike......lol.
I did appreciate the fact that he would slow us down until the vehicles ahead were out of harms way then roll on the throttle to let us experience the acceleration. The GT can really tramp. Fun experience on all counts.

Did anyone else pick up the MadMaps they were giving away? Motorrad USA obviously did some planning, and the plastic coated, folded map of Vermont, with various routes and points of interest was a great addition to a tank bag!

If you were able to take a test ride on some of the new bikes, and you had a good experience please post it up here. I was talking to Brock the other day and he would sure like to hear about your experiences. What was good, and what was bad. So if you could please take a moment to post them here It woud be a great help to Brock, and the others to make your next experience more enjoyable. Thank You.

I had a test ride on a K1200S and was quite satisfied with how the whole experience unfolded. It was well organized. I wanted to demo a K12GT, and could have, had I chosen to wait for the 2:30, or 4:00 p.m. rides. Given the possibility of rain I chose to ride at 10:00 on the K12S. No question you have to get there early. I was staying offsite and when I woke up Friday at 5:00 I thought, now that I'm awake, why not head over to the rally site and sign up for a ride? I got there a little before 6:00, and there were probably 75 folk already in line. BMW started signing people up at 6:30, so I have no complaints there. They had lots of bikes available. Off the top of my head, I'm not sure what I'd change.
