Depends, which model are you looking at? the FI bikes (made since 2001) see an honest 60+ mpg with some folks reporting upwards of 70 under the right conditions. In practice this means most folks have the low fuel light come on somewhere between 170 and 200 miles. At that point there is about a gallon left in the tank.
As an aside, my ex wife rides. The bikes I thought might be a good fit for her were not what she wound up on. Got to be her choice, not just what you think would be a nice bike to have in the garage.

I've got an 05 that I ride every day to work, ~80 miles round trip.
I'm no "gunner" but I do not hold anyone up either...
I'm averaging 67 MPG.

We dont get nearlly that much on a '99 Funduro. Probably more like 40 mpg for us.
we start looking for a fill-up around 150 miles.

Its like clockwork.
200 miles, gas light comes on. 3.0 gals of 89....
So that actually works out to 66.6666 MPG...
I do not think there is any other bike out there that comes close and has this displacement with this MPG...

I bought mine a little less than 2 weeks ago. Riding it home from Ohio on the Interstate I got 63.5 mpg averaging 75mph as indicated on the GPS. The next fillup was after a day of fast rural roads and curves here at home and it got 71.2 mpg. I run regular gas.

06 F650GS 1600 miles logged
Worst mileage is 61mpg
Best mileage is 72
Both mileage checks with gps, not odometer.
Best mileage is keeping speed at about 60-65 mph
Much better mileage than my 04 R1150RT
40-55 mpg

I calculated that using my GS instead of the SAAB 92x AERO I'm burning ~$150 less fuel a month...
Gotta' love it when you pull up to the fuel pumps and someone strikes up a conversation usually in this order....
1. WHY are you putting gas under your seat!?
2. The usual "BMW makes bikes??"
3. This some kinda' dirt bike?
4. And then the killer, what you get for mileage?..."Ohhh, 'round 70"...
BMW has got to make a TV ad that follows in the line of the MINI ads that say it's "sipping" gas. This bike then, -must just live on fumes!

My 7.5 month old '06 GS has just turned 15,000 miles (yes that is 3 zeros) and last week on run from central Florida to Key West it averaged 67 mpg on 87 octane. Most of the ride was right at 5000 rpm. Went down on Tuesday and back on Wednesday. 844 miles RT, by GPS.
PS I typically fuel at 210 miles.

Dudes and Dudettes, he asked about the range, not the mileage. So the answer is:.... depends on model/year and a few other things like sprockets! With the standard sprockets, my '02 GS can go for 260 mi safely at <70mph, but I usually fill it up at 225 miles. With the 15t C/S I run now, it's about 250 miles.
That help?
Cheers, Greg
