When did the requirement to mould the date of mfg. of a tire into the sidewall start??

Long enough ago that if you have tires WITHOUT a mnfct date you should probably throw them away. :D

It's been quite a few years. I know keeping track of tire dates has been an issue in the RV side for better than a decade.

I guess the mfg date has always been there. Prior to 2000 it was a 3 digit code. After 2000 they went to a 4 digit code so there would be no confusion about the year of mfg.
