Howdy All:

I hope you are doign great.

Well decisions have been made. My young son who is joining me to the rally only wants to stay one day. So we will be coming in Thursday and leaving Friday around noon. He has decided he wishes to spend Friday and Saturday in Maine and then do a SS1000 on the way home, stopping at Duff's in NY for what is supposed to be the best wings.

Sounds like the perfect use for the rally. A place to ride to and ride from.

Gail, I'd be interested in talking to you (and anyone else who might be camping). I'm on the fence about whether or not camping would be for me. I don't want to buy all the gear to discover I hate it.

Look into renting camping gear for the first time.

It can be blast for new , young riders. After 25 or 30 years of camping then you can move up to motel camping or when you find out you don't like it.

try it a few times. Great wqay to make new friends. :clap

I'll be camping...It'll be a race for the spot as I'll be there around noon on Friday too! IMO, camping depends on your needs. I prefer to stay where the action is and end up so "tired" :beer at the end of each day that I have no trouble sleeping. I'm pretty low maintenance. If you need more than a a tend, shower and a head, you may want to consider something with a door and A/C...

See you there!!!

Here's the extent of my camping equipment--$40 tent, $20 sleeping bag, $10 folding chair.

I'm a little worried about space for the Taj Mahal tent. It's like 8 x 13, queen size air mattress, central A/C, kitchenette... I am usually a hotel-dweller, but been "roughing" it this season. We shipped three boxes of camping gear today...so much for living off the bike... :laugh

It's difficult to walk two paths at the same time..........

It takes practice but it can be done. Last year I camped and hoteled. Year before the same. There is something to be said for having the fun of staying up late kicking tires and telling tales that I am going to miss.

But then there is something to be said for air conditioning and showers. I think next year I will haul along the tent....

:laugh And here I'm reading your post thinking to myself, "How did she strap all that to the bike?".

My husband swears I pack too much. For several years, we'd manage to go away for a week packed only in his RT saddlebags and trunk. Now that I have my GS, we have twice the packing room and it's still a struggle. How would I ever fit a tent and sleeping bag???

Ahhh whoever this is! Simplicity at its best!

Food clothing and shelter, in whatever form they may take.
===========================================
1.I figure theres food there, have a few h2o bottles as back up and trail mix, beef jerky- check!

2.bring a change of clothes and a towel to get a shower/ flip flops for the too and from, there are showers right? Somewhere I thought someone said that there is...? Hope so or I'm going to have to bring a big bottle of powder!!! :)
SO clothing - check!

3.Tent and if its warm not even a bag, maybe a blanket and a pilllow. I'm just a few hours south of the site and its all of a sudden sweltering here. If its going to keep up like this folks...bring ice for your shorts!

I find it very difficult to bring camping gear if I'm two up. With my daughter on the back seat, I'd have to balance even the smallest of tents onto the little rack behind the back seat. That's possible on the K75, but not with the big tent. So I gave up and shipped it. When we leave, my SO's Road King will look like Jed Clampett on the Beverly Hillbilies. One more bungie ought to do it! :p

I reserve one hard bag for the collapsible cooler :bottle , the other one for regular riding stuff - rain gear, gloves, extra face shield etc.

See ya there!

Shipping gear to the rally is the greatest invention ever. I would need a lot of the elder's advice here to do 2-up without it. I purchased a 'round trip' ticket from my local UPS store. My return label will be in the box! Pack it up, slap it on, drop it off, ride home.
