I'm really wondering what Green Mt Harley has up their sleeve for the rally, they are just spitting distance down the road and everybody going to downtown Burlington or to St. Mike's has to go past....
Special trade in prices for MOA members? :brow
bike wash for beemers?
Quiet pipe contest? :laugh
Maybe we should be proactive.....shrinkwrap the entire dealership Wed night?
The possibilities are endless!!!!!!! :rofl

Josh and I did stop in to see the owner recently to introduce ourselves and let them know what to expect. The owner seemed to not really give two s==ts about us or our Rally. I was crestfallen. :cry

Well he's no Max Stratton then...8,000 bikers are passing your door and you are going to ignore them and the fact that many of them have multiple marquees in the garage. What an idot. He should be planning an open house and Bar-B-Q. Test rides on the Uly. How much money could he make selling tires and oil and the like. My HD guy runs the same Metzlers on his Road King that I have on my GT, it's not like they don't have inventory. I'll look for the "gone out of business" notice next year.

well.......I hope most will worry about what is just beyond their sight line....as they enjoy the things Vermont has to offer....Northern Vermont is looking great right now.....all the rain of the past months have left Vermont Green, and covered with little explosions of summer flowers, the amount of day lillies around is impressive.....

FriedleSorry to hear you received such crap reception. Good public relations on their part, but then again, their product sells itself I imagine.

They would be no different than thousands of other Harley dealers.
A BMW dealer is another thing--as they are becoming a rare sight.

Next year's rally will be near Mischler's Harley and BMW in Beaver Dam,WI. Southeast Sales in north Milwaukee has a BMW store and a Triumph, Honda, Kawasaki store.

Gail, unfortunately the Harley dealer is not a Buell dealer, so no demos on a Uly...
I agree though, with that many bikes rolling through they're pretty stupid to not jump at the opportunity for a bbq type of event to get people in the door.
Then again, they've never really impressed me with their business sense, or lack thereof.

I guess he makes enough money selling Harley-brand oil and Harley-brand underoos.

Why would you expect them to go out of business? Don't see many HD dealers close their doors. After all, HD sold over 300,000 units last year. They have had 20 consecutive quarters of growth. They know how to brand and market their bikes and other items. They really don't have to give a darn about BMW riders because we are not their target market (I know a lot of BMW folks own both but BMW owners are not a very large part of the bike owing population in the USA. BMW sold less than 2% of all bikes sold in the US last year.).
I admire HD for figuring out how to sell what their customers want to buy (at very high prices) and then providing a lot of places to have it serviced.
While I won't be buying a HD, HD bashing is not very productive.
They have figured out how to sell high end bikes at a profit, grow a dealer network, grow a owners group, sell HD branded stuff at high profit margins. While this may not be of interest to some BMW owners/dealers, it has to be admired.
I already know the "I want to be different so I own a BMW" response. I also know about the "BMW quality is much better" argument or the "BMW is high tech, cutting edge" argument.
My point is that if you have to bash HD to feel good about owing a BMW then that speaks for itself.
"Josh and I did stop in to see the owner recently to introduce ourselves and let them know what to expect. The owner seemed to not really give two s==ts about us or our Rally. I was crestfallen.
Friedle"
Of more interest, why would BMW owners care what a HD dealer does or doesn't do just because there is a BMW rally nearby?
Different rides for different folks.

If this HD dealer had any brains he'd have the Buell demo truck there, unlimited free non alcoholic beverages, brats, burgers, etc.. He'd keep the parts and service dept. open all night if needed (lotsa Buell & HD riders will be attending) and run promotions on all the generic clothes and accessories.
But nooo...
HD's boom is over- the customer is aging, their parts and service operation can't keep up with all the bikes they've sold, and the big twins make Ural look modern. The only bright light in the house of Harley is Buell, and that's only a 10 watt bulb!

Nothing about my reply bashes HDs. Rather it's a commentary about a lame business owner who can't see the benefit of putting out the welcome mat as 8,000 riders with deep pockets pass his doors.
Heck I'm bringing a Road King rider to the rally, not my style to bash his ride.

And HD and their dealers are laughing all the way to the bank while you say the sky is falling in on them. :laugh :laugh :laugh
