In removing the gas tank, one of the things that really bugs me is horsing around with those 4 - :banghead 10mm bolts that attach the seat. Is there a trick for removal/attaching the seat. Thanks for ideas.

Why are you taking the seat off?

Unhook fuel lines, remove knurled knobs, slide tank back a bit than life front almost straight up and remove.

There's also the lift-off seat kit...I put one on my '78 /7 right after I got the bike and never looked back. I've got Wixom bags that are basically fixed so the hinged seat couldn't be opened to the right. Not sure if the lift-off feature would work on your bike. I don't see what year bikes you have...

What "four 10mm bolts that hold the seat?"

Seat moves back off hinge pins after removing two clips.

Nevertheless, seat doesn't have to be removed to remove gas tank unless you have some sort of "custom" seat. If so, you've gotten what you deserve.
