View Full Version : Feisty before a holiday?
Is it just me or have others noticed we all get feisty before a long weekend? Our posts have more of an edge. Reminds me of my kids when they couldn’t wait any longer to go on a trip we had planned. They would get feisty a couple of days before. Once in the car things would settle down. At least until the first “are we there yet?”
I am taking the Roadster on a road trip, to the Brainerd area and my sister’s lake home, tomorrow morning. I am going to take the Great River Road north. This will add some miles and time to what is normally 150 miles door to door. The famdamly is getting together for the holiday weekend. I will play with the family and use the lake home as a base to take rides around the area.
Should be fun, can’t wait.
I am having trouble getting any work done today.
I am having trouble overcoming the urge to argue Roadsters and GSs with Knary in another thread. Not because I think I am right and he is wrong. I am just feisty before a long anticipated holiday weekend trip.
Any one else feisty or is it just me?
What are your holiday weekend riding plans?

I'll be driving (yes, I said driving) to SW Minnesota to pick up a new-to-me bike, the successor to the Great Punkin'. Notice it's not replacement, but successor.

Will be re-using the Jesse's, maybe the PIAA's and the Russell. Already got the new GPS and XM. Need a new tankbag.
With the new bike also goes a SMALLER fuel tank, not that fuel tanker he had (11gal.), now he will need to gas up when we all do. :violin Ha HA. Have fun and enjoy Manic. :drink

I think the feistiness before a summer holiday is due to the stress resulting from organizing the event, from organizing our work affairs, and from thinking about the drive to the vacation site. I much prefer to stay at home and take my holidays during the other seasons. Our back yard is as nice as any spot in BC or Alberta, and the local pubs down the hill in Kensington are not too busy as everyone is away.
But if you have kids in school, summer is the only time you can get away for any extended time, so you just have to try to find the least stressful locale.

But when you for for a school that provides a summer school program, you are limited to the short time between the end of the program and the day the school offices re-open. In my case, it is the first 3 weeks of August (office re-opens on 21 August). And the missus doesn't get any holidays this year because she started a new job about 2 months ago. :stick So, any getaway will be solo. :cry

Sounds familiar, kind of like the reason I had to be home before 8PM for my birthday present....
So Mark the GAP opening was that fun?
I just came home. I feel so much better after my ride :D
I'll feel even better ater my Guinness :drink
I'm so confused... I leave town and manic gets new to him farkles with a GS attached to them. Bsquared is rambling about the GAP and Mark is plotting again.

What's a Holiday Weekend? :dunno
Is that one of those times when everybody loads up the cage, drives out to the local Interstate and clogs the highways so that I can't get to or home from work? :violin
Bubba, don't feel looonly, I start my work weeks on Saturday and finish on Wednesdays...
I haven't had a holiday off for the last four years... :usa (wait I think I have had two minor ones off)
I did all my planning for the POA Tour months ago. Now the plan has changed so much in the last two-weeks, that I'm just going to get on my bike Thursday and leave: anxiety, fiesty, worried if the new crown gear is seated right? None of it will make any difference; this is the biggest, longest, farthest MC trip I've undertaken in all my years of riding. Crazy isn't it? (I don't get home from work until 10:30 PM :cry )
If I make it to Boise, I'll hopefully see you all in Vermont... :D :beer
This is my "Holiday"... :brad

From the BMW MOA Forum thread dictionary:
Holiday Weekend, proper name,
1) In the Midwest it refers to a period of time when the manicmechanic takes leave of his bikes to drive a car and pickup farkels attached to a GS. These occurrences are associated with specific dates such as a) July 4 aka Independence Day – a national holiday when children put down their toys to play with fireworks such as farklers, or b) Oct 31 aka Halloween or Great Pumpkin Eve when children put down their toys and wait for the return of the great pumpkin in a sincere pumpkin patch or garage.
2) A period of time when MOA members engage in repetitive behavior in a specific order. Ride, Drink, Sleep, Repeat.

If I have to 'splain...
June 4th the Great Punkin' met his demise, courtesy of a deer on the way home from the Hiawatha rally. After searching I found another GS, well-farkled and a good price. So DaWif and I made the trip this past weekend,(actually, round trip on Saturday) to acquire said GS. Seeing as it was in another state, figured this was the way to do it. Also it corresponded with the seller's schedule.
Anything else you'd like to know? :wave Have a Happy 4th!

Mark's wife's GAP was opening at the local mall so he was helping her last weekend. So he could not go riding.

July 1st actually - Canada Day. Celebrating the coming into effect of the British North America Act on 1 July, 1867.
Also Memorial Day in Newfoundland. July 1st, 1916, 750 members of the 1st Newfoundland Regiment went into battle at The Somme. 68 answered the roll that evening. Almost every family in Newfoundland was affected by the virtual wiping out of the Regiment.
But I digress. I had a great (but extremely hot to my standards) long weekend. Did my first modification to my RT on Saturday -- changed out the stock horn for one that is louder. Took a while to get my hands to bend in the appropriate directions to get the horn off and the new one on without having to remove any body work. On Sunday I went for an hour long ride. And I fixed the vacuum cleaner (found the stupid cat toy :cat that got stuck in the hose). And today, I bought and assembled my anniversary present to my DSW :hug - a park bench to put under a shady tree in the yard.
And back to work tomorrow. :cry But the weekend is only 4 days away ;)
