Hello, this will be my first post so I wanted to say Hi to all the members. Just alittle about myself before my question.
I live in Central Illinois. I'm a production coordingator for a printing company. I bought my first BMW two years ago, an R1100RT. I bought my first bike in 1971, a Yamaha 250 dirt bike which I still own. I don't do alot of long distance riding yet. This will be my first complete summer of riding, last year some eye surgery kept me off the bike. Now for the question-I'm looking to buy a Lowrance 500c gps and was wondering if anyone has one and how they like it. What did you use to mount it on your bike. I also plan to use the gps in the car so I need to make it portable. Thanks for any help. I did check the search function before asking this question.

On my R1150RT I put the RCU shelf and then put the GPS V on it for portability. The other thing you might want to look at is using the RAM mount that goes into the hole for the GS mirrors. www,cyclegadgets.com

I built an aluminum thingy for use with the small Big Mac bag and rack. Can switch between the R11RSL and the K12RS, or remove and lock away in system case in about 10 seconds. The quick release is not to be trusted. Mine is modified with a 1/4" piece, between the unit and mount that is threaded. Two stainless machine screws go through the mount into this piece when used on the bikes.

Some use the QR, but mount it upside down. I still don't trust it.

Here (http://www.mountinginnovations.com/) is a nice Quick mount for use with RAM mounts.

This is mine

I agree 100%. They shipped a quick release mount with mine and I had them trade it, to the bolt on - when I had a service done.
