hey all, just a few days to go till my dad and i hit the road. I'm listing our trip route here such that anyone with ideas on great nearby paths we should consider can send their thoughts.

Start location: Albany, NY
Waypoints:
Ann Arbor, MI
Denver, CO (see Mt. Evans)
Arches National Park, UT (use the Blanding, rt. 95, rt. 12 roads through this area)
Canyonlands,UT
Zion National Park, UT
Bear lake (just north of Salt lake)
Grand Tetons
Yellowstone
Craters of the Moon
Jake's Shakes - ok, this isn't really a national park or anything, but somewhere around twin falls off the interstate, this truck stop has the best shakes!!
Boise (visit family)
Glacier
Lake Louise
Thunder bay
Ann Arbor and back home

I didn't list too many roads here, but I-80 is the main one out west, and I think It's canadian highway 1 from banff eastwards to Thunderbay, and then Rt. 17 to the upper penn. in MI.

Very much open to thoughts and suggestions. Also, I've have a digital camera witha 1 gig memory card, so I plan on taking lots of pictures .. what is best way to get these to a web page??

Thx,

Chris

there, i fixed it for you :)

as far as putting pictures up, you'll need to get them hosted somewhere, i use a friend's server, but many members use
Smugmug (http://www.smugmug.com/), Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com/) is another popular photo hosting site. Good luck with the trip, we'll want a FULL ride report upon your return.

i'm also gonna bump this over to the campfire section, so you can get more input.

From Boise heading north, stay on 95 and then take Lolo Pass out of Lewiston over to Missoula. Since you are a milkshake guy, stop at Becky's Burgers in Orofino for a huckleberry shake.....the season might just be starting when you arrive.

The only other detour I would suggest is traveling from Zion to Jackson Hole via Flaming Gorge NP instead of Bear Lake.

Since your going to be in the 4 corners area you should take the time to do the San Juan Skyway. Excellent loop. Beautiful mountain passes. Lizard Head Pass is on of my favorites. Great food in Durango.

Great ride.

Feel free to PM me if you need info about getting into or out of Ann Arbor. A quick word of advice is to avoid I-94. Too many trucks. If you're slabbing it, it's probably better to work your way south to the Ohio Tpk. Let me know if you need anything else when you're in the area. :bikes

That's quite a trip. Should be some good riding and sightseeing. What sort of time frame do you have planned for completing the trip? If you end up in Calgary in mid July theres always the Stampede for entertainment too.

From Boise heading north, stay on 95 and then take Lolo Pass out of Lewiston over to Missoula.
Absolutely do that route, its fantastic on a bike. BTW its hwy 12 if your looking for it on a map.

Since you are a milkshake guy, stop at Becky's Burgers in Orofino for a huckleberry shake.....the season might just be starting when you arrive.
I've stopped to eat there. Missed out on having the shake though. As I recall, good burger.

No argument with your choice of destinations. My suggestion is only to stay off the interstate whenever possible. There is almost always a fast moving state highway that'll get you wherever you need to go with a better variety of scenery and food options than what you'll find on I-80.

thanks to everyone for your feedback. did a little re-routing ... not going to be able to stop in ann arbor on the way out, but will pass through on the way back ... will send lots of pix on return.

also - just got my wolfman explorer tankbag for the bike .. realy like the way it fits and expands ... like it better than teardrop bmw bag.

If you're still on the interstates between Denver and Arches/Moab, exit I-70 at exit 212 Cisco, and follow the Colorado River on UT 128 down to Moab. It's a real sweet ride. Sounds like a great trip, enjoy!

:type ...Orofino. A clear case of "I took a wrong turn but it was a right turn" in '98. Heading to the left coast out of Missoula along 12. Ended up in a place 30 miles past the intended route 13 turn south. Stopped, annoyed with my inattention, for gas in a busy and noisy place called Orifino. At the gas station there was this grand little eatery. Lumberjack breakfast for a price I could not refuse. Funny little place with clocks all over the walls....fake spiders desending from the ceiling....hydraulically controlled tables that would raise and lower at the whim of those behind the bar. Breakfast: 3 eggs, ham, bacon, toast, endless coffee and then, just to ensure my inability to move, 4 pancakes about 10" across. All for greatly under $5.00. It has been one of my best remembered and most enjoyable food stops while on the road. This may sound a bit too 'Zen like' but the experience again pointed out to me that just as there are no accidents....there really are no 'wrong turns'. -Bob (o-m-m-m-....)
