Saw this article (http://www.motorcycledaily.com/13june06_bmwinmotogp.htm) on motorcycledaily.com. They project BMW will possibly go racing in mid July using the balance of the season to develop the bike.
Hmmmmm? :lurk

Well, I'm not saying it will never happen, but a simple antenna on a finished looking bike is hardly definitive. IF BMW has decided to start testing high performance motorcycles, transmitting onboard telemetry is the accepted way to do it, so this could be explained away as that.
I would like to see them race again. I saw Pridmore (the father) race at Loudon in the late 1970s on a boxer and be competitive - hell he might have won, for all I remember - and it would be nice to see the roundel out there again. but, not if they're going to suck like Harley did when they tried AMA Superbike a few years back...

It makes no sense to build a 990cc racebike for this season when the rules change all the bikes to 800cc for next year.

I guess Dirck J. Edge didn't get his copy of the BMW magazine. The one that explained that this bike is a test mule for the F1 team to test cylinder head mods.
IMHO, BMW doesn't need another venue to show the world how uncompetitive their products are. F1 is covering that base quite nicely, thank you. If there is any truth to this rumor, I bet Foggy/Petronas is funding it! :D

Jon, that's a great rumor: The HP-1 is actually going to be the F800 GP bike! :blah
Besides design issues is there a question about how to train your riders? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKHTZKf48R4&search=motorcycles)
