I just breezed into the local dealer (Bentonville BMW) and picked up a set. You can get them online through Max's, MotoBins, or other online store.

Brake pads are pretty much like motor oil - a religious thing. If you don't have any specific special needs (and you didn't list any) - you won't go wrong by simply buying stock pads. As far as the best place? Your local dealer would probably appreciate your business, if not - there are a number of on-line dealers who will (Max's, Chicago BMW, Hammersley BMW.. etc..)

I checked the list price at an online store and the stock pads are $34 a pair for the front, and $34 for the pair on the rear. It also listed a more expensive pair for the front at $55 per pair, but I don't know why the price difference although the $34 set is listed as pads, and the $55 set is listed as "repair kit, pads" :dunno

I would like to be able to just "breeze in" to my local dealer, but problem is that he is located 165 miles away; he isn't very accomondating anyway!!
Was just wondering, as I have read some saying "stay with orig equip"; some saying stay away from metalic; some with various other recommendations.
Just trying to find the best that I can get; at a reasonable price for ordinary 2 up riding; no big deal.

When I had a nearby local dealer, I always used the OEM pads. They were more expensive but they don't get changed very often and the dealer appreciated the parts business. Now that I do not have a local dealer, pretty much any name brand aftermarket pad will do. I currently have SBS organics in the front but EBC, Galpher or Farodo would work just as well.
IMHO, the less expensive organic pads are more than good enough for street use. Metallics just cost more and abuse the disk rotor without any real benefit.

No good reason, either! EBR sells pads for beemers at half the price and equally good, after 100000's of miles here with them. I just did mine and one calipre was 65$ from BMW, 32$ from EBR at "same BMW dealer". He sold both! Some things OEM are surely good and not advisable to shop aftermarket; other things like pads, batteries, etcetcetc are easily bought elsewhere, even at your BMW dealer, for savings to your wallet and NO less quality. You decide! Your money.
