The brakes squeal like stuck pigs. Pads replaced about 300 miles ago by the previous owner. Any advice on fixing the problem? Any links to articles?

thanks for your help.

Is it the front or rear brakes?

On my 85 if I use the front brakes gently they will sometimes squeal. Sqeeze a little harder and the problem goes away.

Possibly try some anti-squeal product sold at auto parts stores. It is a rubbery product that helps absorb the vibration caused by slightly warped pads.

Are the pads real dirty from riding on gravel roads or freshly seal coated roads. If so you may have to clean the pads with brake cleaner to remove the road grit. Rare but it does happen.

good luck

You Know what squealing brakes mean in Germany? THEY ARE WORKING!!! You can do all that's been mentioned plus make sure your wife is wearing her ear plugs. But what you are going to do is wait till they are worn out and use a different brand untill you find a quite compound. HHShort

Had the same problem on my K75S. You can dampen down the squealing, but your not likely to eliminate it entirely. I used "disc quiet" on the front pads and that helped quite a bit. Also, make sure the rotors are really clean. I used some 600 grit wet/dry paper and scrubbed mine until they were really clean, just used a little soapy water and the paper. I tried some "organic" pads, etc. Didn't seem to make much difference - still squealed. The disc quiet and the cleaning up seems to be about the most effective thing.
