Very soon I will have to remove the front wheel to replace the tire. My Clymer manual says to remove the front fender and calipers. The owners manual says to remove only the calipers to facilitate the wheel removal. Just looking at it, it looks like once the axel is removed the wheel/discs should easily slide forward and out.
Any info. and suggestions would be welcomed.

It is not necessary to remove the fender to remove the front tire, only the calibers.

Well......yes and no. You have to remove the rear section of the front
fender just to access the calipers. I call that removing the front fender.

Removing the rear section of the front fender is only required on the K1100LT. K100LT and K1200LT front wheels can be removed without disturbing the fender.

David, the hardest part of removing the front wheel is jacking up the bike under the engine case. Make sure you place a piece of wood between the jack and the engine sump cover before jacking....do not push on the water pump unit or it will leak later on.

If the rear wheel was removed and the rear of the bike pivoted down on the center stand, would this not provide sufficent clearance at the front forks to remove the front tire/wheel assy and negate having to remove the calipers? The tire/wheel assy should just slide out once the axel and spacers are removed.

I don't think that there is clearance for the tire to fit between the calipers. However, its really no problem to remove the calipers and go out the front without any serious tilting of the bike.
