With Rain falling in the last 23 out of 25 days have any 'swamps' formed at the rally site? A summer storm can bring an half an inch of rain pretty quickly, any tent sites/spots to be avoided? Where should rally goers seek shelter in lightning storms?

Survey the weather forecast prior to arrival. Bring a ground cloth.
If rain likely, choose a high spot and dig a small trench around your tent. Don't pitch your tent in a in a gully or depression. I haven't seen a topo of the area just balloon shots which are no help. I hope that the main field is crowned.
If lightning is in the area, go to the exposition building or nearest bar. If it's Armageddon, follow the Board of Directors, they'll know the safest route out.
best of luck.

I am just guessing here, but the grounds keepers might not be to impressed with 5000 people digging trenches around their tents :stick

I'm not talking trench warfare here. A one inch trail arond your tent should do it. SOP for anyone who camps in the rain. More damage will be done by RVs than rain trenches. Otherwise, enjoy your wet spot.

I was walking the site on Saturday in the rain.
The primary grass camping has good drainage. There are areas of mud but this is not in a camping area.
In the event of a lightning storm we will open the main expo buildings, seminar spaces and the area under the grandstand.

Instead of a trench, put two large sticks or scrap lumber in a V on the up hill side of your tent. It will divert the rain, and if you use 2x4s or wider lumber, they also double as bike side stand plates. See you in VT. Rebel
In paint department, pick up cheap plastic drop cloth . Use as ground cloth but do NOT cut to size. Roll up extra material loosley and tuck under edge of tent. Be sure that plastic does not extend past edge of tent. Works great!
Happy trails
