Anybody take this one on? I will be soon. I'm an older wrench on Airheads and all general service on the KLT too, but it started leaking from what appears the rear main seal in engine. It is motor oil. I am assuming it will take days to get this one fixed, as a first timer in there. Any suggestions. I have considerable mechanical ability and this job does not worry me(too much), other than time consuming. I'll probably get clutch done while in there, at 70000+ miles now. The dealers want 1500$+(approx.) for all this, argggg! My dealer is exceptionally good at helping with questions that cpme up, however and I can lean on them for advice if needed. I just wish for quick fix(Not there,Huh?). 2001 KLT, discusted owner.... :banghead Randy13233

Randy,
Lots of good help over on the bmwlt.com forums and also at K11og.org
I did my K1100LT at 125K miles and it was the O-Ring, not the rear main seal. :(

good luck with it man, i'm going to be doing the same thing with my S in a few weeks, the shop wanted 850ish, so the teardown time on the LT must be twice as bad...............

Yep, sounds like fun times ahead in my garage! KLT must stand for, "Keep Lots of Time" for fixing it after long rides,OR? My R is more fun and when something does go bad, its usually only a matter of a couple hours at best to get going again. I know :violin Randy13233
