hello all, I've had my k1200gt (2003) for a year now. when i got it I would push the start button once, twice, three times till it worked. well during my last 500 mile ride it took 5, 10,15 tries. I'm worried I'm going to be stranded soon. HELP, has anyone run into this issue? I would like to diagnose it myself and fix it myself if possible.
thanks for any help and advise

Interesting that you mention this. I'm having a similar, albeit less pronounced, problem and was thinking it was just my imagination.
I thought that maybe I just wasn't pushing the button squarely or firmly.
I have an '03 GT also.
Naturally, it's out of warranty.

The button design on my K12RS looks like its mechanically identical to the ones on my earlier K-bikes: the underside of the button is a metal disk which bridges two contacts underneath to complete the starter circuit. It is susceptible to dirt and contamination. You could remove the switch gear and flood the button with contact cleaner (keep it off the paint) which should flush out any crap. If that doesn't work then a new switch is likely in order.

Most of the new controls like the K1200RS have little round clicky sealed modules inside for the contact that the lever or button presses on. There may be exceptions, but I think this is the case.
