What are my options for mounting brackets and lights? What do you have (had) on your K11LT, and how did you like it? Thanks, JON
Mounting brackets: Three basic options:
Under the mirrors: I believe that Bill McAvan still makes this bracket on request (i.e. doesn't stock it). If not, a bracket was once made by CBT Imports (Top of the Line), but would only be available used or NOS now. The bracket fits between the mirror and the fairing, and allows the light to hang beneath the mirror (some of Bill's brackets put the light above the mirror; ask, but if you are strictly interested in fog lights, this is the wrong position).
Under the nose: Simplest installation; bolt the light right to the fairing under the nose, maybe put a reinforcing plate or washer on the inside of the fairing.
On the forks: Probably the best position for fogs (lower is better). The best known version is by Motolight, which has caliper mounting brackets, or the original strap on version. Motolight's standard light uses white bulbs (MR16's), but they offer yellow bulbs for more contrast.
I've got (1) with driving lights (newly installed, haven't tried yet) and (3) caliper mounted, white bulbs. Really happy with the build quality of the products, but can't give a good review on use in fog. I do like the fill light that the Motolights produce.
Hope that's of some use to you.
