I have a 1998 R1100GS with low pipe. I want to install a full size bag on the left, but the original lower securing bracket on the passenger footpeg is designed for the high pipe bag. Is there an aftermarket or BMW bracket from an R bike available to secure the bag correctly? Thanks for any help.

Not sure about a bracket for that but what the R1150R guys are doing is using a homemade bracket on the case to match the existing foot. Like this:

I'm not sure. The author of the message that included this photo has nor answered a page. He is in MN. Others have done a similar mod with "L" shaped angle metal or small metal handles screwed into the case.

I have a full size case half that I'll sell you for a nominal fee. E-mail me off list and we'll strike a heckuva deal.

I know I've seen a r1150r who's owner took two small "U" brackets with threads on both sides. He drilled the holes and used nuts/washers to keep them in place.
I'll try to track down those images for you... I say, go to Home Depot and get clevor.

I used aluminum angle brackets from Home Depot, painted them black to match and used stainless nuts and bolts.
Here's my setup:

LOL - two weeks ago I washed and actually waxed my bike! The previous weekend I rode out to Ohio (in the rain) for a long weekend with some riding buddies (~1000 mile trip) :D . I took those pictures after this weekend, I took my son camping in Lexington, VA (500 miles) and ended up on many unexpected dirt roads. :bikes I guess I'll wash the thing next weekend, and make it rain again.
I bought my full size left case from my dealer - they had a used one. I bought the complete case with latch assembly and swapped my lock. The previous owner had a bunch of oddly placed bungee buddies and reflectors (notice the filled in holes?). I took them all out and squeezed some black silicone RTV in there and haven't taken the time to complete the job properly (hey - it works!). That old case looked like it was left outside in the sun for a year when I bought it, but brought it back to looking good with Mother's Back to black - a black plastic polish.
The difference in size is AMAZING - I could never go back to the original small case. I now have enough room to pack clothes/tent/sleeping bag all inside without worrying about rain.

R4RandR:
Did you lower the exhauast, or remove it all together (looks like you did the latter)?
I have tried taking the stock can off, but it's a little too loud for my taste. I had Max's price out the lowering kit, and it came in over $400 (they stated the extra $$ was for a new heat shield, blah blah blah)
I'm interested to find out what you chose to do!

I removed my muffler and put a shiny chrome exhaust tip on (made my bike go 5mph faster! :nyah ). At idle it was a little louder, but nothing like a Harley. I kind of like it - not too loud but you can hear a large motor in there. IMO, sounds less like a sewing machine and more like a motorcycle.

Yes, I prefer the way the bike sounds at idle without the muffler... saves alot of weight as well...
...but I found the constant drone while riding was more than I wanted...
To each their own... ;)

Ear plugs + music source = can't hear exhaust at speed. I can barely hear it at idle with the plugs in (they are custom isolating ear plugs w/speakers in them). Besides the seat, they are the most used accessory on my bike!

It's not just me... ever since the day I went to start my motorcycle and the small kid on the sidewalk threw his hands over his ears and looked terrified in expectation of the scary-loud motorcycle... I've made it my mission to be as descrete as possible.

Ice Man:
I think you're talking about the exhaust lowering?
I did talk to the parts people at Max and had them price it out... I think I may have mentioned it before, but the guy seemed like it was a bad idea considering that I would need a new "heat shield" on the exhaust can for $250+...
...if anyone has experience lowering their r1150r's exhaust for the cheap... let me know! (Or if you Ice Man, have the details about your lowering job...)
