Not long ago I noticed there was very little free play in my clutch cable on my 2000 R1100RTP. I could not get enough slack in it just by using the handlebar adjuster. So I gave it some slack at the rear of the gearbox.
I now have plenty of slack at the handlebar. However, I am now noticing a sort of knocking sound when the bike is in gear with the clutch engaged. The noise goes away when the bike is in neutral and the clutch disengaged. I am wondering if I perhaps I may have over-tightened it at the rear.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

I don't know anything about your problem but am curious as to what made you put the slack in the clutch cable to start with. Have you reversed the adjustments to see if it solves your problem? Just wondering. :wave

Clutch adjustment is easy... adjust cable adjuster (at lever) to get 12mm exposed threads between the locknut and the end of the adjuster, then adjust the clutch arm (rear of the tranny) to get 7mm gap at the hand lever.

The rattle in neutral is somewhat normal, butif it's gotten worse lately it could be due to extended use while misadjusted. I haven't really heard that ascribed as a cause for the rattle, but I wouldn't rule it out. There's nothing to be done about it short of pulling the tranny, so just ignore it unless you are aving downshifting problems, in which case the tranny should come off for a spline lube anyway.
