I am considering getting the low Corbin seat to swap out the stock low seat currently on my K75S. It looks to be about $250 by the time I get it shipped. I probably can sell the stock low seat for , what? $100?$75? :dunno

Anywhooo - I am wondeering which of youse folks has been through this exchange and what opinion you have on the Corbin "low dual canyon". Both me and the missuss are often on the bike - we are both pretty light and in the 5'9" range. The low seat is the right ground height for me - but it sure ain't very comfortable! :cry

So, should I spring for the Corbin or not? :buds

Just nail a piece of plywood to your seat, it will feel the same as the Corbin. :D

I'm not a big fan of Corbin. Their saddles are too hard. I'm very happy with my Rick Mayer saddle.

Do a search on Corbin, you will find far more negative opinions than positive ones. Long time ago, I tried a Corbin on my K75s. I took it off after about a week. It was well made but it was also heavy, hard, shaped strangely and uncomfortable. More recent experiences by others seems to indicate their customer service is nearly non-existant.

Your results may vary ....

My 1991 K75S came stock from the factory with a Corbin OEM seat. Tried it for 5000+ miles. I ride 2-up about 90% of the time. The Corbin sucked! Contacted Russell, they built their dual saddle on the Corbin pan and recovered the Corbin backrest. Best 2-up seat I've ever owned. The Corbin looks better, but, if you're a rider buy a Russell or Mayer (Rick or Bill) saddle. Save your stock seat regardless of what you buy. Then when you sell or trade the K75 with the stock seat you'll easily sell the custom seat for a better profit.

Hi, Mieczkow,
Harriet (wife) is "vertically challenged". When I bought her the K75RT, she said it was too tall, so I put lower profile tires (B'stone BT45 100/80x18 and 130/80x17) on it. It was still too tall. I bought a complete low seat kit and installed it, and the bike was ok. I then found a basic '95 K75 (low seat) and bought it. The seat needed work, so I sent it to Sargeant(sp?) for recovering. Whatever they did, she loves it.

I had a Corbin on my (recently sold) K1100LT and I put 110k on it. It was comfortable, but the seat was heavy. The hinge pin (welded to the frame on the right side) broke, maybe from the weight of the Corbin, maybe from something else, I don't know. My wife found the Corbin extremely UNcomfortable every time she rode pillion. Also, 10 years ago I rebuilt a '77 R75/7 from a basket case and needed a seat. A stock BMW seat was $677, so I paid $250 or so for a new Corbin. It didn't fit - exactly. It went on the bike and would latch, but the seat pan always interfered with the rear fender and wore the paint off the fender. I'd have been better off buying a junk stock seat pan and having it recovered. Yes, my Corbin (K1100LT) was ok for ME, but if I had to do it over again, I'd go for something besides a Corbin.

I installed an aftermarket Corbin on my 1988 K75S in 1993. It is a little firm but I like it fine. The only problem I had was last year I had to get the front seating portion recovered. The vinyl just started tearing. Nothing happened to start it, just old age I guess. The local upholsterer said it was VW pattern vinyl and did a great job matching it.

I have a Corbin Canyon Dual Sport on my '88 K75S and I really like it. Granted I don't ride 2 up on it very often but the rear seat isn't all that bad. I would do the Corbin again. :bikes

Most people here aren't Corbin fans, I bought one because the price was right. I got the gunfighter seat for my K75s and I've been happy with it. It will take time to break in and seeing that I've had mine less than a year I'm convinced it will only get more comfy in time. For what it's worth, service from Corbin is great as is the build quality/materials. I think it looks good too.

I just put a Corbin Gunfighter on my '90 K75. It is more comfortable then the stock low seat and the bike handles better. I even got the faux turtle leather cuz I'm slow.

I have a K75S that came with the OEM Corbin seat they supplied to BMW in the early 90's. It's not half bad. I also have a Corbin Dual Canyon low seat that came on another K75 standard. After an 1,800 mile ride I just about couldn't sit down - no really - I was injured. I had to buy a gel pad just to get back home. Worst seat I've ever ridden on any bike. Other than that I have no strong opinions either way. ;)

I just make shearling covers for my stock K75S seat. Got the shearling pelt from an Amish man. He said the orange tanning is better than the white as it stands up to the weather better. Made a paper pattern before cutting the sheepskin with a single-edge razor blade. Used a thin rubber mesh between the seat and the pad and hold it down with a couple of Velcro straps. Works great, cost less than $30 for both. Also have pads on my F650CS and they also work well. Passenger says she would not ride more than 50 miles without them.

I have a Corbin on my 75RT. I just had the seat redone matching the original contours and pinstriping but with more and softer foam under the cover. MAJOR difference in comfort. The original was hard and compressed rather fast to solid making a ride of more than an hour rather unpleasant. Kinda like the old stock seat on my first R75/6.

The Corbin seats look nice but I am interested in comfort far more than I am in visual aesthetics. IMO Corbin doesn't get it done.

If you have a seat pan already, check with some local upholstery shops about getting it rebuilt locally. I did and it was money (not a lot either) and well spent.

I have a regular height Corbin Dual Canyon (smooth leather) on my 93 K75S and find it quite acceptable, as other parts of my body tire before my seat. Although the Corbin is firm, it is wider and spreads the weight a bit. On longer trips I also use a sheepskin to further extend my range. As I recall, it was an improvement for me over the stock seat, but the improvement was not huge. At 5'8", the regular height seat is about right for me. I wonder if the lower seat (with the shorter seat to footpeg room) may be a comfort issue for you.
