Just picked up my new(to me) 2003 R1150RT last week. My first BMW. I think I am going to need some highway pegs and wonder what some of you think of what is out there. I have found two on the internet. One is an ELF that appears to bolt in place of the spark plug cover and the other seems to bolt to the head bolts or something similar. I like the looks of the ELF but am curious what some of you think. I sure like the new wheels. My first sport tourer and I think this is a sure winner.

In my opinion, the pegs that mount to the valve cover bolts are asking for problems if you ever tip over even at a full stop. The engine guards will have no effect if you mount this type. If you can guarantee that you will never tip go for it, but somewhere, sometime you may experience this and the pegs will damage your cylinder.

The jpegs will not damage the heads if they are retracted. If extended and you tip you could have the same damage.

I've seen an RT fall on an extended Elf Peg. The only thing damaged was the Elf Peg. The person to whom this happened uses this forum...I'll allow him to embarass himself if he chooses... :D

I might have witnessed that close up and personal like :dunno

The Elf page was damaged but not the cylinder head.

Thanks for the information. I like the looks of the ELF better so will go that route.

I have a set of ELF Pegs (are they Elves?) and find them really comfortable on a long ride. It's a slick design and they seem to be well made. They are absurdly over-priced, but spending our lunch money on motorcycle parts is all part of the fun, right?

I happened to meet a guy today who had foot pegs on his RT that somehow mounted at the front of the motor and not on the cylinder heads. He told me he bought them from Bob's on a close out and they could be mounted without having to remove the faring. They were pretty cool and even had a part of the peg that would bend if it hit the pavement. I believe he said they were made by "Curved Solutions" though I can't seem to locate them on the web. Anyone hear of these ?
