My 02 R1150R now has a little over 40k on the odometer. For the past couple of years the throttle is getting stiffer. I do my own maintenance so I purchased a TwinMax to see if the throttlebodys’ needed adjustment. After setting the valves and cleaning the K&N filter the TwinMax shows that everything engine wise is adjusted properly.
I have checked the cable and throttle movement at the bar and everything seems ok. Is there an adjustment I am missing?

Have you ever taken the throttle assembly apart at the handlebar to see the mechanism and how dry it might be? Heated grips tend to dry things out, including any lubricant that may or may not be below the grip itself and in the wear surfaces between the grip and the housing. Cables do not require oiling typically. Also have you had cause to re-route any cable or move it aside or anything? Or did you put a Throttlemeister or alike that may have encroached upon the clearance between the end of the throttle tube and the bar-end?

The cable junction box down under the battery gets all gunked up. A friend had to have his cables replaced earlier than 40K. Mine are also beginning to stiffen up at 48K. The cables don't get lubed.

All it takes is one or two frayed threads in the cable tubing to cause what you are feeling...
Just go grab a new throttle at the dealer and see what you are missing...
just replace the cables and the Bowden box...lube the grip a bit...and just like new...

I had a buddy that had an '02 GS with 15k miles on it and I think you needed a pipe wrench to turn the throttle. As it wore he got used to it, until he rode my bike one day. He took it in for service and needed a new cable - which one I don't know. He said it felt faster with the new cable - probably 'cause he could actually TURN the throttle!

Thanks for the information.
I tried all the stuff PUDGYPAINTGUY suggested.
I will start going after the cables. I assume the "Bowden Box" is the junctions from one to two cables.

I just did all my cables minus the fast idle cable at 30k and it is sooooo much smoother now. The bowden box sits under your abs unit. You'll have to pull the tank disconnect the cables at the TB's then the box is held by a little clip, you push it down and the whole box slides out on the right side. It's cheap to replace but I just cleaned mine up with some soapy water dried it out and reinstalled. Don't lube it as it will attrack allot of dirt in there.
