Given the following catagories of K-bikes:
1.) K1100
2.) K1000
Other than the "LT's", which of the designations(RT,GT, RS,S, and so on) are the most upright? I cannot tell from pic's or literature.
I do not tolerate "sport" positions very well. Are the larger K's like the K75's in that the footpegs always have the same location, but the handlebars are the variables?
I am just trying to keep this all straight. Am I making this harder than what it really is?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Look for the models with the taller windshields. That should be the LT and RT models for more upright seating. I'm like you, I dislike the forward lean and find it very uncomfortable especially for longer rides.

I know that there are K-RS's.
I thought the RT's were reserved for the oilheads.
Would a K-ST have close to the ergo's of an R-RT, as both are "sport touring"?
Then again, would not the GS have the tallest (height from top of windshield to ground)windshield based on your definition?
Thank you

The K1100LT and any K75, except the S will give you a nice upright position. The K100RT would probably be the same, but you are getting into a much older bike. The K12GT is not at like these, and the rider is leaned over. Anything with an S has a lean (sport)

Well yes, --- but , sort of, it depends, etc. BMW offers adjustable windshields, optional windshields, optional seats, thus it is a bit hard to pin down a bike based on the model code. The suffix is a general classification, and loose one at that.
Gail is pretty much correct, but the S in GS does not define a seating position resembling a sport bike.
A few years ago the model coding seemed to be more consistent. I suspect that BMW's marketing department now has a large hand in assigning model names. I have a difficult time following them.
Time for a trip to the dealer.

The K100RT, I think available only in 1985 and '86 (it was a long time ago).

Wasn't there a K75RT too?
I think of my K100RS as a fairly upright motorcycle, but then I have gorilla arms.

After I crashed my K100RS, the mechanic 'converted' her to a standard K100, which means he stripped of the fairing and put on a round headlight assembly. He also put on a different dash to match the headlight and a radiator cowling. He left the short sport bars and I really didn't like that too much, so he got me a set of K100RT handlebars (with heated grips!) and put those on. Much more comfortable.
I don't think the RS had different footpegs/controls. So I am pretty sure the only difference is in the handlebars. The seats are the same, too.
I don't think he had to change the clutch or front brake cables, but that's been several years and I can't wuite remember. Possible, though.
