I apologize in advance for asking a question that has probably been answered many times, but sometimes that's how it goes...
I too have the often mentioned 'disappearing tach/speedo/gear indicator' syndrome...or rather I share it with my '85 K100RS. Fixes mentioned loose connectors-- I have the 2 long connector bodies in the instrument housing and have done all I think I can in that area-- including holding the connectors in with the bike running-- no luck. My version of the problem--high beam indicator comes on ( off if head light actually in high beam) , clock, tach, speedo, and gear indicator fade, while turn signals, horn, lights still work. Turn signals will cancel.
My Haynes manual mentions BMW Service Information Bulletins July 1987, 62 004 87 (2264 C, D, & E) in regard to this issue and then quickly changes the subject.
So here's my question-- where can I find these bulletins.
Thanks,
Rob

Rob,
You could maybe ask your dealer to print them. All the SI's you mentioned are still available. 2264A, 2264B, 2264C, 2264D, 2264E all relate to the instrument cluster.

I don't understand why the bike owner doesn't get a notification when there is a service bulletin especially when it concerns serious engine problems.
On my '90 GS (bought new) and before 10,000 miles I blew the cooling vanes out of the original oil cooler and then a second one less than a year later.
I bought the first replacement oil cooler (and oil lines I had to splice to get home) from the dealer I bought the bike from and he said nothing about a service bulletin. When the second cooler blew out I went to another BMW dealer and he didn't mention a service bulletin even though I bitched loud and clear.
The way I found out there was a service bulletin was from a BMW dealer I happened to meet at a rally!
The problem turned out to be that the return oil hole in the oil filter cover from the oil cooler was too small and had to be drilled out to relieve the oil pressure in the cooler vanes.
A hard lesson I learned from this is if you get a high pressure oil leak like this your oil pressure drops and critical parts of your engine may not get a sufficient volume of oil. So even if you can replenish the lost oil (and wrap your leg in Visqueen) don't keep going unless you absolutely have to.

That appears to be a sanitized version of the real bulletins but it SURE is
better than nothing. They seem to end about 2/2002.
THANKS!!!

Don't bother, they took the site down. A little truth goes a long way at BMW/NA.
