Hi all...I have a 1995 K1100RS and was looking to put a different seat on it. I stumbled on a used Rick Mayer seat last year and bought it. It is comfy, but doesn't exactly flow with the lines of the bike. I was looking at Corbin, but then saw an add for Kontour seats in the ON. Does anyone have either seat and could comment on the comfort qualites of each?

Thanks for any input.

Laurie

I have a Russell seat. it is very comfy and cheaper than Corbin. You might want to try them.

From what I understand Russell is a spinoff of Mayer and they build the seats the Mayer used to build. Mayer got back in the business albeit with a different design.
I have a Russell and love it. However, if you don't plan on spending long hours in the saddle a Corbin will work. I switched from the Corbin to a Russell and consider it an upgrade.
The speculation on which saddle is the best could go on forever but there are a lot of Iron Butt riders out there on Russell's.

I'll also add that my bike had a Russell seat on her when she came to live with me. I finally wore it out (the velour wore through). I contacted Russell and they had me send it back for a recover and rebuild to fit me. I sent in the photos they wanted along with my seat and back rest/luggage rack. I was very happy with the process and the results.

I went with the all vinyl instead of the velour inserts. Comfy!!!

So you'd recommed a Corbin then?

For an off the shelf seat the corbin or sargent (i've had both) work fine for me.

289,000 miles on a BMW seat. Approximately 5,780 hours, but not all at once.

I have a Russell on my K1100LT and I have a Corbin on my R1100GS.

In the past, I have ALWAYS preferred the Corbin over a stock seat....until I sat on that Russell.

The Russell is better in all respects - in my opinion.

2,200 miles in 48 hours on a Sargent.

Just remember everyone's butt is different so what doesn't work for me might be perfect for you.

Also if you can hold out until the Vermont Rally you can try them out there...

I wish I was going to Vermont, but I live in Seattle. Just a little too far for a rookie tourer...but I saw another thread that the '07 rally will be in Wisconsin. That would be do-able.

I've heard good things about Russell, Mayer and Corbin...but what I'm really interested in, is the KonTour seat...

On my 85 KRT- I swapped out the stock seat for a Corbin(in 89)..thought it was heaven..until 4 years later when it started to fall apart. Corbin, at a rally said 'tough luck..time to but a new one'. Will never buy another. Have had a 'custom made' by a local guy and its lasted 7 years now with no problems.
Make sure what ever you buy will last. and how do they back it up if it fails/rots/self destructs.
