View Full Version : Auxiliary Light Switching..

I'm having a difficult time trying to figure out the switching for two sets of lights.
I installed a set of PIAA 1100X 55W(fog) lights with the OEM/switch relay, I hooked the ground to battery and the hot wire to the parking light under the headlight.
I want to add Trailtech M16 (driving) HIDs that draw 30W X 2. For a total draw of 170W.
Will the PIAA OEM relay handle it (I can't find the info on the web)
I want the switch to operate the fogs (alone) and the same switch to operate both (driving & fog)
I have a DTDP switch that I would like to use. Forward (Both), center (off), rear (fogs)
Any tips would be appreciated.

Torags,
I've got my PIAAs hooked up direct wire w/included switch to ignition source and power. (I run these almost all the time anyways)
My HIDs came with the 'Auto-Switch' which wires into your blinker-cancel switch. Works really cool, comes with a small LED to tell you they are on. Just need to hold the cancel-switch for about two to three seconds on or off.
Check state code, Washington says one pair of auxillary lights at a time either fog or driving but not both.

You will need a second relay to run the second pair of lights if you want them to switch independantly. Your fog light relay will have 2 wires running to the switch side. You may have to put a diode in the relay line to the fog lights from the position that will light both sets. Otherwise the power may bleed back to the driving light relay.

Do you think the parking lite wire can carry the extra load?

Yes, that source only activates the relay, very low draw. I currently have 3 relays operating from the parking light circuit on my RS.
