Just did a 2000 mile trip, two up, on my 2005 R1200RT. What a great bike. Rick Mayer seats – great investment. I did install a few “necessities” but now I need more and I need the wisdom of this esteemed group.
Windshield: Mine is the original. At 90 mph (and up) the wife was getting too much wind. Must change for better protection. I just don’t know which direction to go. Would appreciate some advice.
Highway Pegs: I guess that I reached the age when I have to stretch my legs once in a while. Was thinking of installing crash bars and then some aftermarket pegs on the bar (and aux. lights).
Lowered pegs/ foot boards: Do they make them for the R1200RT?
Mirrors: After nine years on the K75 I got used to seeing what’s behind me. Cannot do it on the R112RT, especially two up. Must have old fashioned mirrors that were designed for rear viewing and not hand wind protection.

Regarding the Highway pegs, there are some called ELF pegs that attach to the heads and are unnoticeable until they are extended, very cool and from what I've gathered functional as well. A tad pricey however at $349.00 a set. I also saw some 9" X 4" floorboards at the Sierra BMW site (for the 1150RT, but they may also have them for the 1200), that I think were around $399.00 a set. I'll probably be deciding on one or the other pretty soon (and probably eventually both).

My R1200RT has a lowered seat (which I'm replacing) and I added the BMW peg lowering kit (about $150) which does make a difference. I find that with the lowered seat, the stock windshield is about perfect, but my 2 up cruising hasn't exceeded 75mph.

The Elf pegs look pretty neat, but $349 seems a bit pricey!

Cee Bailey makes a number of larger windshields.

Also, you might check with a dealer as there are some other R or K series mirrors which will fit the mounting holes just inboard of the clutch & brake lever pivots. IIRC, they run about $50 each.

I put the Cee Baily's windshield (+3 taller, +1 wider) and love it. My wife had the same complaint and this seams to be the fix. I am 6'4" and with it fully raised the wind doesn't hit me but I am looking through the shield. I find the sweet spot to be just looking over it. Most of the wind misses me and my wife, plus I don't have to look through it. :clap

Thanks to those who wrote. I am still undecided as to the windshield. Cannot fugure out why BMW cannot make seats and/or windshields.

First of all. I know everybody is different and has different needs... and people come in all shapes and sizes. They also have different issues, conditions, styles, gripes, they're easy or difficult, want la z boy or doesn't matter, bad knees, bad back, dry eyes, tough and grizzly, soft and squishy...or just plain contrary.
I like the stock seats, not a hundred percent...but mostly and they usually look like they fit the bike, don't weigh 200 pounds (Corbin), and are easily replaced if need be. I sat on them for 35 years and the only reason I get a different windshield is because I like a tinted one. Looks better longer.
So I can't figure out what all the aftermarket seats and barn door windshields are about...but that's fine...but BMW can make seats and windshields...just not for everybody I guess. Maybe just one guy and gal...heh...anybody else out there?

Get used to it :)

I have replaced windshields and seats on every BMW I have owned since 1983 (R80RT, R100RT, R1100RT, R1150GS, R1150RT, R1200GS, R1200RT). BMW makes wonderful motorcycles, but has no idea how to make comfortable seats or windshields that give you adequate coverage. So when you get a new BMW motorcycle, just plan on replacing the seat(s) and windshield. It is part of the purchase from the get-go.

Reminds me of slash-2s and slash-5s. When you bought these new or used the first thing you did was order aftermarket Flanders or Brown sidestands.

I have installed the Suburban peg lowering kit on my 1200RT. At 6'4', I feel this was a wise choice. I did not buy the extended shifter just dropped it down one notch on the splines. I then adjusted the brake and I am totally used to the difference as if the bike came that way.

I also ordered an Aeroflow windshield that should show up soon. After I install and test, I will provide my opinion. I think the stock RT winshield is designed for riders under 6'. Next season I will most likely get a Seargent seat. My brother just put one on his K-RS bike and loves it compared to stock.

Just added an Aeroflo windshield to the 05 RT. Incredible difference! No more wind buffeting. The noise in the helmet is vastly reduced. Seems so far to be the best thing since sliced bread.
(The Aeroflo on the GS turns it into a whole other bike. wonderful!) :clap
