I purchased my first BMW last month, an '03 K1200GT and I'm in lust so far. I have only 2 complaints and need some suggestions. First, the mirrors are great as far as clarity, but the field of view is awful. I'm hoping to get a rectangular shaped mirror that will give me a bit wider view. Will the mirrors from the RS work on my GT? (I think the RS mirrors are rectangular).

Also, the stock seat and my rear end don't like each other most days. Particularly the left side for some reason. It also slides me forward. I have an appointment to have my dealer install Suburban type 2 barbacks which may allow my butt to sit more flatly on the seat, but don't know yet. I'm considering a Sargent seat but would like any feedback on that or others.

Thanks,
David

Go to http://www.k-bikes.com/forums/ for feedback more specific to the GT/RS. Most parts/accessories are interchangeable between the two. The seat...personally I got use to it. Mirrors I never really noticed a problem with them (I have mickey mouse style as well). Most folks will say give the bike some time, drop the pegs down before putting on the barbacks.

I have an '03 GT as well, in that very cool Orient Blue, and have never had an issue with the seat. As far as the mirrors go I will have to agree that I feel like I don't see enough of what is behind me. I have only a little over a month so far and so far I love it as well. A little over one thousand miles so far. I am currently looking at adding a GPS, but haven't seen a lot of options for mounting the things on a GT that look good.
I agree with the previous post though, get used to the bike before you make any changes. I was lucky enough that the previous owner had already installed lower pegs, stealth seat back and PIAA 1100x's. I have ordered the bar backs, but I'm still not sure whether I will have them installed or not.

The rectangular RS mirrors will give you a bit more field of view. If you're feeling really flush you can go for the Verholen fairing mount mirrors, as used on the R1100S. They give alot more view, and are closer to your line of sight.
Check out www.i-bmw.com for K1200 knowledge.
Welcome to the Darkside!

Hello David

I switched to the RS mirrors on my "04 GT... No problem install and a worthwhile improvement. Chicago BMW discouts 20% off list. $60.00ish if memory serves.

I do not care for the stock GT seat. I don't get sore, however I don't like the way you sink into it. Actually I never used it for any length of time, don't like the feel.

I've experimented a lot (got 4 different seats now) and I like firmer better.

In fact, if you're interested I've got a stock seat off of an '02RS that when used with a bead cover is in my opinion much better than the stock GT seat.

I rode that combo back to Cleveland from S Carolina (one 12 hr ride) in remarkable comfort.
Also, the RS seat is less padded that the GT so you get "lowered" into the
bike, so to speak. In it, not on it..

pm me or e-mail if you're interested in the seat

My GT has the RS mirrors, Suburban bar-backs and footpeg relocation kit. This configuration works well for me, but the stock seat does indeed produce a massive case of butt-burn after 8 hours! :eek
