Comrades,

I am about to remove my fuel tank on my 87 K75S and have not had any luck finding the two "clips" described in the Haynes manual. I see the two rubber bumper/grommets. I don't see any kind of clip. There something I not seeing here....

Anyone want to talk me through getting this tank off?

:buds

Much appreciated!

If you have your seat off, the clips will be on the back end of the bottom of the fuel tank. They are probably a gold anodized color, but they may be discolored. Just pull on them and and they will come off.
It sounds like that maybe your bike could be missing them. The tank may fit snugly enough that it hadn't beem a noticable issue.
If thats the case then your tank should lift up in the rear, then pull back on the tank gently and lift it enough to unhook the fuel lines.
Good luck!

The 2 c-clips should be there. It could be that they are not there. They can be a bear to push in and secure the tank and they can be lost down into the frame and body of the bike by a lazy previous owner. One clip can hold the tank, but the absence of both can be a real problem as the tank is not secured. Several BMW dealerships offer the schematics for BMW motorcycles on their web sites, Max, Hammersly, and I believe A&S are a few that do. Look it up on their sites under K-bikes, then fuel systems. With these bikes being 20 years old and some having numerous owners nothing surprises me. If one or both of those clips are there and U try to force the tank up, the tank can be damaged. I have an 87 K100 that uses the 2 c-clips, hope this helps.

Here is a link to Max's parts fiche. There is a section on fuel tank attachment diagrams

btw...barryg makes a good point. I mentioned that it may have not been a noticable issue, however I didn't mean to imply that it wasn't important that the tank was secured.

I lost my fuel tank C-clips years ago. Never replaced them. The rubber grommets are more than snug enough to keep the tank where it needs to be under "normal" conditions. I'm thinking the clips are only really useful if the bike is dropped at speed.

I ran without the clips on my K100 for years. The seat I had pressed against the tank and did the same job as the clips. Maybe in a wreck at speed it would have come dislodged but that wasn't ever a concern of mine.
