Don't want to be the next biker that Dodge sets its sites on.

i was involved in a similar situation but less severe, an adolescent in a jeep cherokee was in front of me on the highway, and out of nowhere started to brake for nothing. I kept my following distance, and then he did it again, and then again! In a 55 mph he came down to 15 or 20 mph three times, just to mess with me, god only knows why? I just kept my distance and turned off the highway as soon as I could, took a different route.

Anyone else run into these kinds of citizens who tamper with our lives?

It's really hard to de-escalate these events. Tit-for-tat retalliation as was described in the earlier cited website is not unusual.

Perhaps we shoudl start a "Bad Driver" site where we can write up bad drivers, with license plate numbers and car descriptions? I think that this would be a public service and provide an outlet for some of the accumulated wrath. Anyone else think this would be useful?

As temping as it may be to retaliate, on a bike you will never win. Even against a GEO. Swallow your pride & live to ride another day.

Going the other way... I pulled out stupidly in front of a guy in a pickup who generously stopped and allowed me to live. We pulled up side by side at an intersection and he was looking pissed! I told him I really appreciated his pulling my bacon from the fire, that what I had done was a maximum dumb brain fart and I really appreciated his quick reactions. All was, of course true! He quickly changed from frown to smile and told me, "hey we all have those brain farts from time to time."

> glwescott, has one spot: admitting & apologizing; we're human (most anyway) & errors occur. I've only had a couple who "didn't get it". Bikes have such greater acceleration/braking profiles than autos, how can they get cheesed if you caused them NO difference in behaviour? When was the last time an auto driver apologized to you??

> Most Rage incidents wouldn't be if drivers followed: situational awareness, proper lane usage, courtesy, their priority (Are you Always in a rush?).

> My personal big cheeseoff is when you "catch" a Bozo in a really stupid situation, and they flip You off! I feel the legal euthanasia policies should be extended to include such individuals, it'd keep the gene pool cleaner...

(sorry I missed ya, but I have another box...) <<<)))

That was an interesting thread. Thank God I've gott'n wiser in my older age, but when I was younger and on a much faster bike with an exit coming up. I too have left someones right-side mirror hanging from the wires or falling off and hitting the road. I don't condone that type of response or action anymore and feel that on a bike you should just get the hell away from someone like that. Times have changed too much over the last decade or two, people are more willing to wreck their car into you as a weapon and then drive away or shoot you, while you are lying on the side of the road bleeding and dying, they won't care.

Washington State has a pretty good response to 'Witnessed Road Rage' all's you need is thier license plate number and the State Patrol will follow-up at their door-step with a warrent and citation to appear in court. 70% of the unmarked WSP cars and trucks/SUVs on I-5 are not there to catch speeders, but there to catch aggressive drivers and 'Road Rage'.

Our roads are getting more and more dangerous every year, every where. On a MC you have to remember you are on the bottom of the food-chain no matter what.

Now I just give people the 'Index-finger' you're number-one, or the German hand-sign for a$$hole (the OK sign) and leave it at that. I guess I have also stood up on my pegs and mimicked the motions of taking your cell-phone from your head and pulling it out of your a$$. That usually gets a chuckle from other drivers who know exactly what's going on.

Ride safe, ride in control and always find another route to work when someone has a beef with you. It's just not worth it....

Man what a JERK!!! I had a friend that was leaving a rest area on Sunday and a minivan side swiped him. The guy gets out and starts yelling at my friend (when you lifted the bike up and saw the gas stain on the road - it was clear my friend had the right of way) but the Jerk, claims, "If you couldn't see me, how did you know I didn't have the right of way".

I don't understand why cages hate us motorcyclists so much?? Are they jealous, because they are too stupid to ride??

Who knows - but we all should be careful out there!!

Ride Safe and Have Fun!!

whoa,

all i am gonna say is awsome for that motorcyclist

i had a friend punch a mirror off an suv on rt95 outside of boston for a similar thing, except the guy was behind him actively trying to hit him for no reason. i was on my /7 and knew the truck could probably out accelerate me, so i just hung way back and sorta watched the thing unfold. my buddy is half crazy sometimes anyway and he just sorta put his fist out like a jousting pole, laid on the throttle and rocketed past the guy, knocking his passenger mirror off, it was "tres cool".............imho

Wouldn't punching a mirror hurt or possible break your hand?

my thoughts exactly, although it's amazing the damage a set of held gloves and 20 mph can cause, his hand was fine though.

I do not condone or recommend this type of activity, but I found your left foot works pretty good while going about 10-15 mph faster and still have better control of the bike should the need to swerve become necessary.

Again that was 20-years ago, to many things different today. They don't get sceeerd they get even with a 4-6,000lb cage.

I hate to say this, but I have long felt that the problem is that cars are simply too safe these days. Too many people have terrible accidents and walk away without learning anything. If more folks got a limp or some scars from being morons I bet they would drive more carefully overall.

My biggest issue is tailgaters. Not only do I have to worry about the idiots in front of me, but I have to ride knowing that if something happens in front of me, the bozo behind will probably run me over.

Sigh.

Didn't hurt my hand at all, last time I did it, Kbasa. Was several years back, and the glove has armored knuckles on it. Asshat tried to run me off the road, reason unknown. He pushed me out of the lane onto the shoulder, and when I slowed and fell back into the lane behind him he kept jamming the brakes on in front of me. I changed lanes, but same game. Got beside me at one point, and pushed me off the road again. He's screaming something at the top of his lungs the whole time. I passed a few cars to get them between us, and he caught up and started right in on me again. Followed me around corners, etc. I'm not sure who pissed him off, but I was in his sights and didn't want to play anymore. He stopped in traffic with other cages for a traffic light, waving his arms and still shouting from in front of me. We had 2 cars between us at the time, so I got on the shoulder again and popped his mirror off as I went by. Was tempted to stop and toss it up on his hood, but I resisted. He was pinned between other cages, and couldn't catch up to me again, and I didn't stop to help him with his mirror.

Hi Doc, that is interesting about WSP and their response to road rage inclined folks. We are soon to be relocating to the very northeast corner of Washington and the main reason is the increased population density in western Oregon. Just way too many moving parts around here and add to that the dumb down factor that seems to be afflicting American society and it is time to head for the hills, literally. :wave
