Wow! I did it. I drove 2900 miles from Graniteville, SC to Beaverton, OR in 3.5 days. Got there April 23 at 2 a.m. I got hailed on in Nashville but other than that got to my new home safe & sound. Pics available at http://rmielke.photosite.com It was an amazing journey finishing up with an 1100 mile day on Saturday. Talk about tired! I don't have a phone yet but I'm wired for high speed internet. YeeHaw 100 times faster than the netzero high speed dial up. This is gonna be fun. I unloaded everything myself, including the bike. I was scared to death backing my R1200RT down the truck ramp. I wasn't centered but had backed past the point of no return s I let the front brake go and zoomed down backward. No crash, no damage from the decent or being tied down for all those miles. Got 4 more days until I start my new job at Intel. Even bought a bed already. More to follow.

Congratulations, Bob, and I'm glad you landed safely. I must say, you've never looked better. Looks like a pretty cool pad. Lap top and a TV tray--what more do any of us need? Keep us posted on the new job, and on all the new roads you get to discover. Now that you are on the left coast, maybe we'll meet. I'm hoping to do a northbound coastal trip early this summer. . . .
Stay well!

Great to hear you made it! The new place looks homey and inviting. Now get out and explore, and make new friends. I'm sure that will all happen. :wave

Glad to have you in the neighborhood! You're only about 500 miles away, and in much of the west that's just about the right distance to be good neighbors. ;)

I see you have a rainbow in one of the pictures. Hated those things as a kid having to do my chores. Mom always had one. Just bought myself one of ebay. It is reconditioned. Amazing the difference in clean. I had just vacuumed the day before the thing was delivered. I vacuumed as soon as I got it. I was amazed how much came up.
Good to have in the soggy northwest for the little bits of grit that are sure to get tracked in.
3.5 days. What a haul. Glad ya made it safe.

I'm so happy for you! I hope you get settled in and make new friends in the area fast! You'll have new people to meet and new roads to ride on...
It's a shame you passed through the Gateway City and didn't stop by the MOA to say hello! I suppose you were busy in transit, but the next time you're passing thorugh, I'd love to meet you!
Have fun decorating your new place and CONGRATULATIONS! :heart

For the St. Louis poster, I was born in Belleville, IL & still have a brother, ED, living near O'Fallon, IL. I belonged with the Gateway Riders for years & know Mae & George Glascock well along with Phil Sulfsted. Say Hi for me.
Fr the Boise, Idaho resident you realize I had to drive right through Boise to get to Portland. Beautiful country you have there.
I've started making friends already. Todd lives upstairs from me & shuttled me all over Beaverton today trying to turn my Budget rental truck back in & get my $150 deposit. The third try was the charm. Seems the dealer listed on my contract had no room for one was returns. What would I have done without Todd knowing the area?
Tonight I'm going to a church "home group" with Pasquel, our apartment complex maintenance technicial. I now have a table & two chairs. It was the last thing i was able to haul in my rental truck. Now I'm a biker only kinda guy. How do you like the great weather I brought with me? :bolt
Tomorrow it's ride time and broadband Vonage equipment day. Fedex should have it here by then. Thank God for this internet connection. I felt like a deserted rat on an island until last night. More Later.....
I wasn't centered but had backed past the point of no return so I let the front brake go and zoomed down backward. No crash, no damage
I don't know how you got away with doing this, you are one lucky dude to ride it out. With the good luck you are having you should have swung through Vegas on the drive up.
Congratulations on the move. And the new job. How soon do you start?
Good luck.

Backing down that 22" ramp would not have been easy with help, so God helped!

Bob in Portland here. We have a couple of newbies in the area. I'm thinking of meeting at Helvatia Tavern at 11:00 AM for Coffee on the 6th and then spending a couple of hours showing the other Bob_M some of the neighborhood. Helvatia tavern: Hwy 26, west of Portland, then north on Shute road. The roadhouse is the only bldg. in town.

I'm riding dirt bikes on Sunday the 7th, but I'm available on the 6th. That sounds like a good plan Bob_M. keep me updated.

P.S. Oh, Bob welcome to Oregon, you're going to luv it.

Bob_M - I'm going to try & strike out & locate that tavern you mentioned as a big adventure Saturday, Apr 29th. I might get lost but I've been lost before. I don't know my work schedule with Intel yet but May 6th at 11:00 is now on my calendar. I hope I can make it.
