93 K1100LT: "Chirp,chirp,chirp" + battery light = ?

So I'm driving along and my battery light comes on (very dimly) and when I come to a stop, I also hear a consistant Chirp from the right side of the bike.

Are the two items related symtoms of something bad about to happen?

Possibly the alternator is starting to gum up. It is located on the right rear of the engine and is driven by 3 rubber discs. There have been reports of these failing. Your alternator brushes may also be getting worn down or dirty which would also cause the dash light to come on dimly or flicker.
