View Full Version : What a Sunday!
In the midst of all that is bringing us down right now I had a wonderful Sunday.
My grandchildren and daughters all came an woke me up for a Sunday breakfast picnic.
I came home from church and went to Tufosi heaven watching Ferrari and Micheal Schummacker win San Marino F1 on CBS(go figure)
Then went to the MN Thunder USL soccer team home opener which they won 4 - O! Sat on the midfield line and got a sunburn.
I just put some food on the BBQ and am having some friends over for an evening picinic.
It will only get better when I am ridding again.
PS. So caught up in my day forgot to wish you all had a good one also and have a great week.

I built a fence today with 5 of my new neighbors. We started at 9:00 AM. But I wanted to go for a short ride. I woke up at 5:00 AM & went up to Deer Creek on the mountain loop highway. I gut just after the sun was coming up. It was really terrific.

I just realized that my Sunday was pretty darn good as well.
Started off the morning taking the whole family to church, immediately followed by a pancake breakfast sponsored by the local Lions club.
After that, my wife and daughters headed out to a bridal shower, leaving my youngest son and I home alone. So I took this opportunity to work outside almost all afternoon. Got my garage sorted out, cleaned up the dog mountains in the back yard, even played around with the motorcycles a bit. There was no riding on this beautiful day, but it was not wasted.
Then once everyone was home, we went out to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant.

Stressed this week keeping up with work and hiring out some minor house remodeling. Wife convinced me to go camping with our son and some friends Friday night near the Everglades. Wonderful.
Work will always be there. Family is here only now.
Just stumbled onto this thread; it was already in my head. We are so blessed.

Woke up this morning in a cabin in Yosemite National Park. Went on a 5 mile hike up to Mirror Lake. My wife, my visiting friend and the neighbors drove in the car. I rode the bike, through some rain, some gusty winds and some sunshine. Gonna have a hot tub now.

This weekend was the GS open house at BMW Motorcycles of Atlanta. Special guest was Helge Pedersen, who gave his presentation about the Globeriders (http://www.globeriders.com/) Silk Road tour. The party was at TWO in Suches, GA.
The next morning it was off to the woods, I led the GS ride and Helge was glued to my six on an HP-2 the entire day.
Wish I had taken at least one picture....

I took a short (160 mi.) therapy ride Saturday. Just got myself lost on a succession of county roads. Sunday I worked in the garden, weeding, tilling and moving about a ton of crushed stone for the garden paths. Took frequent breaks including a long one for the F-1 race. I am stiff and sore this morning, but it's a good sore. Must have stirred up a lot of pollen because my head, eyes, nose and throat are all scratchy this morning. And had homemade potato-leek soup for dinner last night. A very good Spring weekend.

It rained/poured all weekend, with the exception of an hour where the sun came out yesterday afternoon. A good time to catch up on bookeeping and a little logo design.
I roasted a leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary. Lemon potatoes and Greek salad on the side (salad with fresh Bulgarian Feta; if you're a cheese-fan, you've gotta try this stuff).
To accompany the rain and the dark skies, came the unfortunate news that a client's horse, With a City (http://equirace.com/), a contender for the Kentucky Derby, was euthanised yesterday after a 3-day mysterious illness.

Rained here. Got home from work Sunday morning at about 8:45. Piddled around the house. Got things together and went out with the wife and baby to target to get some things. Walked over to Lowe's and bought a few plants. The previous week was beautiful though and since I work nights I got to play in the sun during the days. No riding as I have to attend to my little girl. But I did take delivery of 12 tons of topsoil for my new garden. Had it all wheelbarrowed into the garden in 3 hours and 15 min. I was beat after that. Looking forward to planting in the coming weeks.

With the help of my buddy, Brad, performed my 30k service on the RT. Changed oil, replaced filter, changed transmission and final drive fluids. De-gunked and washed everything. Slightly tightened the left intake valve. Adjusted the throttle bodies. Rechaged K&N air filter. It now purrs like a big cat.
The wife and I then went out to a Mexican restaurant and ate a great lunch with Margaritas.
Worked a little, played a little, and am darned glad to be here.

Sunday was a washout and I spent most of the day indoors defragging my hard drive :type
... but Saturday was quite a day. I spent about 4 hours on Saturday morning with 100+ other volunteers, cleaning up a local Management Area where we do a lot of mountain biking. I'm still waiting for the final tally but I believe we filled more than 15 forty-yard dumpsters. The attached picture shows what we found at the bottom of a pile of roughly 500 very old tires that were dumped in the woods decades ago. That's me and my pickup dragging two old axles to the scrap-metal pile about a mile down the service road.

Great weekend. Watched the Oilers lose to Detroit on Friday :( (DSW is an Oiler fan) after a nice, warm ride home from work. While watching the game, a cold front blew through and dropped the temperatures by 10-12 degrees C with a very strong wind. Did not ride on Saturday but did go accessory shopping. Watched the Canadiens beat Carolina :brad AND Kevin Harvick win the NASCAR race in Phoenix (love that feature on my TV remote).
Sunday, we watched the Oilers beat Detroit :brad and took my wife for her very first motorcycle ride. Took the long way around to get some beer (150 km trip to go 5 blocks). We went east on Highway 16 through Elk Island National Park to see some bison. Then down secondary highway 834 to Tofield for some ice cream. Then Alberta highway 14 back to Edmonton and then to the beer store. I told DSW that if she said the ice cream was the highlight of her ride, she was never getting on the bike again :D
Overall, a very good weekend. Long range forecast for next weekend is looking really good. Debating how to entertain my DSW on her birthday.

Hey all,
No riding this last weekend. I was rushing to get out of the office at 5:30 on Friday when I checked the forum one last time. Garth!
Saturday, I was teaching an adult ed session on Cost Accounting and Decision Making in Sioux Falls from 8 to Noon. Then off to a wedding reception in Kansas City, Kansas. My teaching committment meant I missed the wedding, but I joined my wife at the hotel and we did the reception together. My next door neighbors (the last 16 years) were the parents of the groom. Watching their three kids at the reception was a joy after the start to the weekend. Their eldest, a girl, is now an assistant professor at North Dakota State Univ. The two boys both work for Cabella's in KC. My wife and I shared a table with the CEO for much of the reception. When the best man, the younger brother, gave the traditional toast, he cracked up the house.
"I learned a lot from my older brother, like not to fry bacon in the nude." lol
Sunday, drove home. Stopped for gas in Platte City, MO and ran into a member of our Sioux City riding group. Small world.
I too, am glad to be here.
