Last year I had a 1200 GS, now I have the 1200 RT. The RT does not idle well compared to the GS. It will idle smooth for a while then "chug" ( is the best way to describe it) then go back to a good idle. My GS never did this. I am about to have the first service done on it, but it has done this since new. My GS did not idle like this so I am making a comparison. The question for all the experience out there.... Is this something that usually is related to the first service valve adjustement or throttle sync?
Of course I will bring this up to the dealer when I take it in this week but I am curious what other 1200 owners have experienced.

I experienced the same "chugging" you describe. The first service at 600 mi did nothing to correct it. I now have 3500 mi and it has smoothed out quite a bit, so it probably is a matter of break in.

I have 2005 RT1200R with 6200 miles on it. After a few minutes it will idle very smoothly.

My RT has always idled well. The GS "chugs" when first started. The chugs go away in a minute or twp as the bike warms up a bit. Doesn't seem to be a thing to worry about but make sure the idle speed is set correctly and do discuss it with your dealer. :deal
