I'm a history buff and have a facination with the American Civil War. If I get the chance to attend the Nat., I'm taking a ride to St. Albans, site of the St. Albans raid. Confederate raiders sacked the banks in St. Albans, retreated back to Canada and took the cash back to Richmond. If anyone is interested in that ride let me know. It is listed as the most northern land incident of the war east of the Mississippi and the war as a whole. Barry

A great way to combine riding and history is to follow the Bailey Hazen Road in North Eastern VT. The road was built during and after the Revolutionary War. The road starts in Wells River and ends in Montgomery. Along the way you go by towns of Craftsbury and Albany (plus others). Infamous Joe's Pond is also on the route. Check out the following link for more info.

Note: To truly follow the exact route a GS capable bike will be necessary

Barry,

I used to do Civil War reenacting for the 9th Massachusetts VI, so St. Albans was definitely on my list of MUST SEE sites. The raid on St. Albans put the entire North in a state of panic at the time. There is a small museum in Downtown St. Albans. Definitely go check it out!

P.S. Reenacting is rallying in costume! :usa
