How's that for irony, folks. . . Scott Crossfield is the first man to fly Mach 2 in a research aircraft, goes on to fly the legendary X-15 to 88,000 feet in the late 50’s, lives a full and productive life in aviation then dies in a thunderstorm while flying his own small Cessna 210 at the age of 85.

R.I.P. SCOTT CROSSFIELD (1921 – 2006) ` Thanks for your service.

(thanks for the update, tessler)

It is ironic for such an accomplished pilot to perish this way.

RIP

Indeed it was ironic. But for what it's worth (and pardon the oft-used phrase) Crossfield really had The Right Stuff. RIP.

I think I'd prefer to die doing what I love to do than to die farting in a nursing home. Well done, I say.

There is an old adage among pilots:
There are old pilots, there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots.
Scotty Crossfield proved that one wrong. Godspeed.

But I love to fart...
