Apparently the Grateful Thread is messed up as I tried a "Quote" post there and it came up blank on the forum. Anyway, someone asked about converting tapes to digital....
I bought a USB device from Xitel called "Inport" (Best Buy or CompUSA) that is supposed to convert tapes and LP's. I only got it to work for LP's but it may work yet for tapes as I haven't exhausted all my options (contacted the company).
I also got a line (from a pro disc jockey) on a company called Tascam.com and a software they sell called "Sonyacid Studio" that I haven't checked out yet. I sure would appreciate any info anybody has on converting tapes & LP's to digital and I'll pass on whatever I learn (after I wean myself off this Web site!)

Haven't tried to convert any of my own LP's to digital - yet - but there's an interesting information-filled thread started by our very own 'merrittgene' back on 2 November 2005. May be of some assistance to you - and others with LP history.
Check it out here. (http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=8243&highlight=LP%27s) Hope it helps!
Check out Forum member 'boofer's recommendation for www.dak.com (http://www.dak.com) as well. ` :thumb

I recently was tasked with a request to rip sound track from dvds. I did a bunch of searching and located the perfect solution in a piece of software called Freecorder. You can locate it on shareware sites such as Jumbo.com or Download.com It allows you to grab and sound detected by your soundcard & record it as an mp2 file. It's very easy to use and 128bit quality once you register. Works for me.

The Windows Digital Media Plus Pack (for Win XP) includes an analog recorder (based on Cool Edit). I've got my turntable connected via preamp to a computer and have -- ever so slowly -- been ripping my ~400 LPs. It's somewhat annoying because the track detection is fairly easily fooled. But even when that works flawlessly, one must enter all the information about album, artist, track title, genre and so on. No way around all of that.
